Virgin America launched its in-flight voter registration drive with Rock the Vote on a flight between San Francisco, CA and Washington, D.C. Nobody should wonder which party affiliation Virgin America and Rock the Vote expect to sign up... Do you think it's a gimmick -- or is it democratic?

BUZZFEED.COM reports:
Virgin America Enables In-Flight Voter Registration: Romney and Obama impersonators come along for the ride...

Nice going, Richard Branson! because they have such crappy candidates and unspeakable positions [literally, in romney's case] the righties want to suppress the vote, and you are stepping up to help thwart their un-American intentions. I wish there were more rich guys with a conscience that doesn't end at the tip of their nose.

What about those poor disenfranchised (democrats) that can't afford to fly?
You know, the ones that can't afford a picture I.D.

You're right. Voter registration. How gimmicky! Not that it's important to give everybody the chance to vote, or anything. And people in either party could sign up, it wasn't exclusively for democrats or republicans.

Why is it a gimmick to offer voter registration? A gimmick is something used to increase sales, in this case tickets on an airline. No one is going to fly Virgin America unless they have cheap fares....regardless of whether they have in-flight voter registration or not.

While this is some what disturbing, atleast people flying have enough money to buy tickets. What really is a problem is voter registration in welfare offices where a lot do the people who have children receiving benefits are not citizens or even here legally.

The woman who wanted Government to supply birth control free? Seems fair to me...

I'm a cost-benefit libertarian. The cost of birth control is minuscule compared to the cost of welfare from children that could have been prevented.

Of course it's a gimmick. Not surprising it's being done flights from San Francisco to Washington DC. It'll spread like a cancer to other airlines. I'm surprised brilliant Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin Group, would even allow this if he was true to his principles. Just follow the money with this. Obama outsourced 10,000 fired NASA employees directly to others, mostly to Russia, but Branson hit the jackpot. He wants Obama reelected.

"In July 2012 Branson announced plans to build an orbital space launch system, designated LauncherOne.[33] Four commercial customers have already contracted for launches and two companies are developing standarised satellite buses optimised to the design of LauncherOne, in expectation of business opportunities created by the new smallsat launcher."

Branson doesn't really care about the U.S. really. He's like the 3rd or 4th richest man in the U.K. He'll probably be THE richest soon no matter whether Obama or Romney are elected.

And while I would think that Virgin may lean left I'm betting you can't generally make that assumption of their passengers who lean...cheap! While I fully support widening the voter registration I think the other challenge everybody needs to think about is the number of low information voters out there, and how that issue gets cured. Deciding your vote based on the appeal of advertising spots only is a little scary

    More than a little, really.

There should be a test with two questions on it, and you have to answer both correctly in order to vote.

    1. Was Barack Obama born outside the United States?

    2. Was 9/11 engineered by people within the Bush administration?

If you answer "yes" to either question, you are too stupid to vote.

    couple of other questions -

    1) Should the Fed be eliminated?

    2) Did the stimulus package actually have NO impact in lessening the impact of the financial collapse?

YES answers again would disqualify you....

I think we may have eliminated 1/2 the Republican Party and perhaps are on our way to offsetting Republican voter suppression efforts.

Absolute scam, a sure path to voter fraud and identity theft.

This MUST have been the Obama administration's idea.

Any particular reason this would produce fraud? What's different about this than any other means of registering on line (which are numerous). How exactly would this lead to fraudulent votes being cast?

Number one, there's no way to prove who you are.

Number two hacking into phones while registering through totally insecure "air" is so easy it's laughable.

But I'll give you this, registering online is a total scam as well, and should be stopped immediately.

The ability for a citizen to vote is a Law That Has nothing to do with party affiliation
why would any party worry about votes unless the suppression of votes would help their cause. Maybe it's time to listen to the voters and not special interests. People will still have to show ID at the polls that require it anyway. Typical B.S., if the republican party is worried about losing, maybe they should get another candidate before it's too late!
