Should the FCC look into whether Fox News is really news?

Related Topics: Television, Crime, Misleading, Commission

John Amato at Crooks and Liars thinks so. His angle? With Fox News now routinely getting caught doctoring video and airing the misleading clips in its news reports, Amato thinks Rupert Murdoch's 'news' channel might be running afoul of FCC regulations.

Specifically, Amato points to this FCC language:

“Hoaxes. The Commission's prohibition against the broadcast of hoaxes is set forth at Section 73.1217 of the Commission's rules, 47 C.F.R. § 73.1217.

This rule prohibits broadcast licensees or permittees from broadcasting false information concerning a crime or a catastrophe if: (1) the licensee knows this information is false; (2) it is foreseeable that broadcast of the information will cause substantial public harm; and (3) broadcast of the information does in fact directly cause substantial public harm.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Well, the only problem with this wish is that the FCC only regulates television and radio news that uses the public airwaves and does not regulate cable news.

However, they are already known for their news so their credibility anymore is about like Brietbart & limited to the right-wing who they are heroes to for their manufactured news..

I thought they were already listed as an entertainment network, not a news network.
Problem is, many don't know this.

The Fox News Channels lists very few of its programs as news. Most of the big names are not actually considered news -- even by Fox.

They really should be required to air a disclaimer on each program reminding the viewer that the follow is purely fiction.....

you can go to Youtube. Look at the speech Obama did for the cadets. The original is up there, then look at Fox version. Fox removed the applause.

lol, evidently you do not watch Bob, or you don't know fiction from nonfiction or you are just ignorant of the facts. If you don't know it, nobody will be able to show you. There is plenty of proof but you have to be able to accept the truth.

This is the same game the right-wingers, tea partiers, extremists play with Beck or where is the racism in the tea party. Bob, unfortunately for all of you, others have eyes & ears, they are not blind to facts. They can read the signs, they can hear the news and be able to make an intelligent decision if it is true or made up. They can hear the hate coming out of the mouths of the racists and all of this has been seen and heard which is why it is so acknowledged by so many now.
