To comply with local law, norms, and expectations, Prodege has the following policy regarding market research directed to Chinese respondents. We require that our market research clients or sponsors who target Chinese respondents via our panel or business comply with this policy as well.1 Please be sure that your surveys meet these requirements. Failure to comply may result in suspension of a survey project and/or termination of our relationship.
1. Prohibited Survey Topics (in China)
Survey projects are prohibited from addressing the following topics to Chinese respondents:
a. Government policies, state institutions, national leaders.
b. Terrorism, religion, ethnic separatism, human rights, protests.
c. National defense, military, diplomacy.
d. Unexpected disasters, emergencies or accidents.
e. Illegal content, including but not limited to adult content, gambling, narcotics, superstitions, fraud, smuggling, tax evasion, theft, robbery, or other criminal activity.
f. Sensitive social topics, including any controversy or dispute involving: politics, public opinion, food safety, family management, population control, state-owned enterprises or industrial relations, labor, crime, education, ethnic relations, social welfare, community, medical issues, or social security.
2. National Sovereignty Terminology (in China)
Survey projects targeted to Chinese respondents must respect the following conventions regarding the use of terminology with national sovereignty connotations:
a. Rather than refer simply to “Taiwan,” “Hong Kong,” or “Macao,” use the terms:
- “Chinese Taiwan” (中國臺灣);
- “Chinese Hong Kong” (中國香港), “Hong Kong Special Administrative Region” (香港特別行政區), or “Hong Kong S.A.R.” (香港特區); or
- “Chinese Macao” (中國澳門), “Macao Special Administrative Region” (澳門特別行政區), or “Macao S.A.R.” (澳門特區).
