This is an unfortunate accident that should have not happened. I have seen ti before just not with the same result. They should have been instructed never to wrap the rope around their hands which I think is what happened.

Because we couldn't possibly... oh, I don't know... LEARN from mistakes rather than just try to ban everything?

They were most likely being dumb, having their fingers between the ropes. But that sucks.

It sounds like strong ropes are necessary as well as a limit on the number of people allowed to play at one time.

Maybe they just need to practice safer ways of playing it. I cant remember how many times we played tug-of-war as kids but I know that it was probably several times a month and I cant remember anyone getting hurt like that, the worst I remember is someone twisting their ankle.

TUG OF WAR IS AN INTERESTING GAME WHEN WE DO WITH ITS TRUE SPIRIT. IF THE CONDUCTORS / PARTICIPANTS DID NOT DO IT THE RIGHT WAY, HOW CAN SOME ONE ASK A QUESTION TO BAN IT? THOSE WHO CONDUCT SHOULD USE THE RIGHT MATERIAL FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN IT.

Maybe they shouldn't have been playing tug o war so extreme to the point were you can loose your finger. Sorry don't blame the game blame the people who take games for fun way to seriously it's their fault.

    Of course.

Turn the kids out onto the playground, have them stand still for 15-20 minutes, then send them back into class where they can sit without thinking for the rest of the day.

The perfect addition to the perfect education system designed to produce nothing.

Obviously these poor teenagers were doing it wrong. Perhaps wrapping it around their fingers or perhaps playing tug of war with a wire type thing instead Of rope. How awful that this happened. But there are hundreds of horrible car wrecks every year. Do we stop using cars? More drownings a year than gun deaths, many many more do we ban swimming.

injuries happen sometimes. if we banned something everytime someone got hurt from it no one would be able to do anything. are we going to ban cars because ppl get inaccidents and get killed?? there are safer ways to do some things.

Discipline those who fail to use the correct types of rope instead. "Apparently, there are safe ways to have a tug-of-war. According to the International Tug of War Federation, you want to use a particular kind of rope to prevent injuries."

What? Tug-of-War has been around for a very, very long time. I've never heard of fingers being severed. Even so, if we banned everything that hurt somebody we'd all be standing completely still and naked somewhere hoping that the sun didn't hurt us since we couldn't ban it as well.

So really, this applies to both the concept and the question:

hurt standing completely naked hoping sun hurt ban applies concept

I think we need to ban sidewalks, driveways, and roads because they are too rough on our bodies if we fall down. Falling down is the #1 cause of all non-fatal injuries after all... What do you guys think? LOL

Can't ban mother's closing car doors.
I work with a man who lost his eye playing on the company baseball team. Should we ban all company teams.
