Katie Holmes Goes on a Post-Divorce Shopping Spree: Is Shopping Therapeutic?

Post-divorce Katie Holmes has moved on from Tom Cruise in every way, including her appearance. After marrying Tom, Katie's style significantly matured and while she always looked classy and put together, she definitely looked older than her age.

Embracing the "out with the old, in with the new" mentality, Holmes recently went on a shopping spree at Barney's and supposedly dropped over $14,000 on lingerie, and thousands on 15 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes. Along with this, she bought "a closet worth" of sexy cocktail dresses and suits.

It's true that looking great can help you feel great, so it makes sense that Katie would want to reinvent herself and her look now that she's single again. Most of us could never shell out $14K for sexy lingerie, but can you relate to the concept? Is shopping therapeutic?

is shopping therapeutic when you end up with a lot of crap you don't need? Come on! It only creates more and more confusion
It's only not a problem for the mega rich like Ms Holmes

I always feel better after I shop! Unfortunately, I don't have the money to do it the way Katie does, but even buying one thing for myself or my kids or house that I need or want, it helps after feeling blue.

It's great because it gets your mind off of things. Plus, when you get divorced, I'm sure you go through the same post-relationship rituals as you did when you were younger ... cutting your hair, shopping, buckets of ice cream ...

If I've been having a really good week, sometimes buying a nice, new outfit can really cheer me up.

The other day I overheard two broads talking. The one said "Oh no, I broke a finger nail", the other said "well, let's go shopping".

Who cares... Maybe she is just shopping because she wants to do so. Maybe it has nothing to do with divorce and just that fall is coming...

It can be as long as it doesn't cause you to go in debt. Shopping is thereputic to those who enjoy it and if it's a type of shopping that they enjoy as well. For those who find shopping therapeudic the instant thrill of just being out of the house, doing something you enjoy, and getting something new that you really enjoy can make you forget at least temporarily the scars and trials of life for a while.

I love nothing more than to spread the dough, so to speak. Why yesterday I was on the Avenue Montaigne, after a jaunt on my jet (a Gulfstream G550) and thought, "Why don't I drop in and visit La Rinascente in Milan?

I avoid shopping, I work in retail and working with clothes all day makes me go home and pop open a bottle of wine. Not shopping to destress.

I think it's almost like a fresh start in a way. Like getting a new hair do. For the brain. Less memories attached to at least picking out an outfit for the day.

It can be, depending on what you're shopping for. My mom and sister think that shopping for clothes and makeups is therapeutic, but I think shopping for books, movies and music is therapeutic.
