Do Stressed Out Men Prefer Heavier Women?

Do stressed out men prefer heavier women? Apparently so, according to a study reported by Time magazine. The study, published in the journal PLoS ONE, reports that "when men were placed in stressful situations, then asked to rate the attractiveness of women of varying body sizes, they tended to prefer beefier frames, compared with unstressed men whose tastes skewed thinner."

“This suggests that our body size preferences are not innate, but are flexible,” said study co-author Martin Tovée of Newcastle University in the U.K., in an email, noting that they may be influenced by our particular environment and resources.

HEALTHLAND.TIME.COM reports:
Most men prefer leggy and lean women, Gisele Bündchen lookalikes, right? Not necessarily. In fact, the body type that a man finds attractive can change depending on his environment and circumstances, a new study finds: when under stress, for instance, men prefer heavier women.

I always prefer women with wide hips and a it of weight to them. I have never really found "skinny" women attractive sure they can be pretty but the have never really done it for me sort of speak.

I really have no idea. I do know that I gained, then lost, then gained. over 2 years ago I decided to change life style rather than diet and I still lost over 100 lbs. Now my oncologist wants me to gain as he says I look like I was just released from a concentration camp!! :( I have a healthy BMI and i feel really good so i have gained three pounds, but that's it! Besides as has been mentioned, if you have a positive attitude towards everyone, smile a lot, and compliment others each time you greet them, should matter most. I have been fortunate that my hubby loves me at any size or weight because i make him happy and he loves me. So many people pass one another as though the other person doesn't exists. Wouldn't it be better to smile say something nice and make them feel you honestly care about them? Wouldn't making someone else happy tend to make you happy, too?

Although I don't know, I have a friend who goes bar hopping looking for heavy women. He says they are easier to bed and very grateful for the attention. I find it odd that some women would equate their self worth with their appearance.

    That's a hell of a question.
I don't think stress has anything to do with sexual preference, but if there's a stat about it, then I think the real question is, who is using this as a medical thesis? HMM?

I am very much a stressed out man, and I am not at all attracted to heavy women, so i may have disproved that notion.

Whatever happened to those who "liked' someone because of "intelligence" "character" "humor" and other qualities??

Does anybody see this "study" as a "putdown" to MEN and women alike?? Is this study really saying men are so weak they will look for comfort anywhere??

Men and women alike have a variety of tastes in their partner.

    JEEZ!!

I don't know one man who prefers heavier woman ... and I am not about to put
on one pound to please any man. LoL .. I think this is a fallacy. Men like lean women
with curves in all the right places and that's where it's at. XD

That is the thinking that makes these studies worthless. There are people that like different things in the world and all the studies can not quantify that.

Hi trader, your point well made. I agree that these studies are rather silly.
I don't pay them much mind. Half of them are ridiculous. They are not accurate.
There is no way to logically get a proper count. The post is fun to toy with anyway.

I don't like "lean" women. I'm sorry but may be it is a cultural difference but I've never considered the majority of models or actresses as attractive. In my opinion most women who are lean look more like males because they rarely have the wide hips that I and a lot of my guy friends (of other back grounds) also prefer.

To each his own. You like what you like and you are entitled to that. I think most
men prefer lean women with curves. No lean women that I know look like men.
It's how you perceive them. I've never met a man who prefers heavy women nor
ever heard one say they do.

I believe alot of men perfer a more shapely woman than one that is stick thin with bones all over the place. I don't mean a 450 lb woman trying to squash herself into a size 20, but a full-figured gal may provide comfort in that she reminds him of mom or grandma, etc...

When I'm having a good day, I desire women weighing between 110-135 lbs. Average day weight preferences = 135-160 lbs, and bad days tastes range from 160-200 lbs. When my whole world's caving in, anything with a pulse over 200lbs :)

Maybe it's instinct. If you've been unable to bring down a wart hog, ibex or musk ox for the last ten days, a chubby mate at home nursing the youngins may look like calories in the bank.
