It depends on the situation. My ex husband got his truck, and his clothes. That was it. But it was an abusive situation, and I was the bread-winner. So I could prove I paid for everything, and he didn't get anything. Even had to trade in his beloved truck because he couldn't afford it any more.

ONLY if you are the one whose income was paying the bills in the first place (and in my case (yes, short disaster of a marriage) it actually was ME paying the bills (so yes, I kept that debt with the house as well).

Not always, children can be a big determining factor. I had my ex refinance, pay me the portion of my investment and remove me from the loan -------fair is fair!

If children are involved, almost always. Otherwise it's whoever makes the best argument to the court. A common solution with many couples I've known is to sell the house, pay off the mortgage, and split the equity.

Depends on what happened. If she leaves or cheats, then hell no. If he leaves or cheats, then hell yes.

Different states have different laws. Texas is a community property state, so the assets are divided. Sometimes people sell their house and split the proceeds. If people have more than one property, they can each get one.

    In my experience, yes.

I worked with a guy who was in his fourth marraige- he had lost his previous three houses to his ex-wives. He called collectively called his ex-wives "the housekeepers"

she shouldnt always get the house. it depends on the cause and grounds for the divorce, who gets any children, etc. if she owned the house before the marriage, then it should be her's. otherwise it should be a case-by-case basis.

Not if she can buy her own. My ex had to move out of my house.

Usually it must be sold to settle marital debts and split the assets.
