Because, inevitably, it will be the ones who can afford it who will stop having the babies. The mouth-breathers who reproduce at such a frantic pace are on the dole.

Have only those you can support and bank the savings. The country needs more savings accounts.

if it's crimping govt spending of tax payer dollars..that's always good. Something disturbing that I heard not too long ago about my state of AR is that, 70% of babies born in 2010 had the expenses paid by medicaid/care...I doubt those are the kinds of people who put financial responsibility ahead of baby making though...Also heard that, when any woman has a baby, the hospital gives them all kinds of gov't freebie enrollment papers to help them pay for it...Gov't assistance should be asked for before being offered..

SS is a ponzi scheme concieved when we had a ton of kids to keep the "paying in" happening. We are killing that with fewer children. But I look forward to hearing the reasons that my opinion is the minority on this.

well Sheila, you're right but too many kids these days are born into the gummit welfare mentality and they are raised to manipulate the system...so many don't ever contribute to the ponzi scheme but manipulate it to receive benefits from it without ever paying much into it at all...Thus, I will never see the SS $$ I've had stolen from me.

but you can type on a computer and volunteer at an animal shelter? You can't find a job dealing with computers? I'm sure you could find a job if the govt teat was pulled from your mouth..You're "disabled" but able enough to carry a baby for 9 months and then pop it out and take care of it, but you can't find a job to get off welfare? Even if you adopt a kid, you still have to be able enough to take care of it and if you have the ability to raise a kid, pick it up when it falls down and give it a hug then you can fkn WORK for your money!!!! or are you just a worthless mooch...give me a fkn break..YOU ARE WHAT IS WRONG IN AMERICA

no they're not, I've volunteered at an animal shelter, you will be bending over and cleaning poop and the kennels, bathing dogs and taking them to exercise...If you can volunteer doing that then you can find a part time job doing something. Companies get a tax break for hiring the "disabled"..and parenting is a strenuous full time job too..unless you are a quadrapalegic, blind/deaf, mentally handicapped or a wounded war vet, you should get nothing..even the mentally handicapped get jobs sacking groceries..have you no pride?

For pointing out the inherint dishonesty of intending to have children you can not work to support? THAT is a reason to block? Sad to say she is correct in her assertions and you dont seem to have the grace to be ashamed of your statement. So feel free to block me as well.

I worked with MS for 16 years, no I am not on disability, I am retired.
My non union pention that I paid greatly into would not cover much but my husband runs a small business and I care for my grandchildren.
If you want to work you will if not you won't. Ofcourse there are extreme cases but not so any.

A lower birthrate brought about 30 million illegal aliens into the country to work, that does not include an approximate 30 that came in before the current invasion. With them came welfare and crime. Not exactly a stimulus factor.

How come so many people voted "yes" on this poll? A low birth rate is devastating for the economy, especially if the birth rate falls below replacement levels.

Babies are expensive, and having them during a recession is a tough thing. It makes sense to wait until you are more established financially before taking on babies.
