With production for “Catching Fire,” the highly anticipated second film in “The Hunger Games” franchise, set to begin in just a few months, speculation is heating up over who will be joining the cast.

Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason are two of the most important new characters, and according to “The Playlist” two names are “in the mix” for Johanna: Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki.

Johanna Mason

Wasikowska is well-known for her roles in “The Kids Are All Right,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and “Jane Eyre.” Aggeliki, on the other hand, is a relative newcomer, though she will soon appear in the films “R.I.P.D” and “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.”

Both actresses seem like compelling choices for Johanna: the sarcastic, fierce competitor from District 7 who becomes a strong ally with Katniss and Peeta during the 75th Hunger Games and also goes on to play an important role in “Mockingjay,” the third and final installment in the series.

Sources have told “The Playlist” that Aggeliki may end up signing on in the next couple days. But, director Francis Lawrence may end up choosing someone else entirely.

So, what do you think SodaHeads? Who should play Johanna Mason in “Catching Fire”?

Naya Rivera and I am not alone on this.
May the odds be ever in Naya's favor.

I think Niya Rivera or maybe Anna Kendrick should play Johanna Mason. Particularyly NIya Rivera because her character on Glee is so oppinionated, si we know she could handle the part of Johanna. I pictured her in my head whe I read the book

Whoever they see fit to play the character better, I trust their casting decisions. Though I've never seen Mia in any roles but Josh Hutcherson I know was in “The Kids Are All Right” and it was supposedly a very good movie so maybe they would work really well together since they've worked with each other before

If the script is as good as the one was for "Hunger Games," then I think there are a lot of actresses who will do well in the role.

definately Mia, she exudes a strength a hardness that can get her through a dangerous situation. Zoe looks too soft, to childlike to survive 1 day out there.

but at the same time wasn't looking like a weakling how Johanna won her Hunger Games? Play the soft crybaby and then when the field is narrowed really low show how she's really a brutal killer? That could be the angle they want for the character, look sweet and approachable, though everyone knows she has some serious skills with an axe. I agree with you on Mia but the softness might be something that actually helps her if she shows that she can be both soft AND have Johanna's brutality.

Only the most epic Hunger Games character (well except for Finnick, and pretty much all the others except Gale, lol) She's a character from that's first formally introduced in Book 2 of the Hunger Games Series (Catching Fire) though she's first mentioned in The Hunger Games (Book 1). You should read the books, they're amazing.

Well, Johanna is in her early 20's. Like Finnick.

Finnick won at 14, so he's 24 -- putting him in his mid-20s. These two young ladies look to be about 17 or 18 at the most. Johanna would also be in her mid-20s.
  • Jada_Ringo Seonag 2012/06/26 15:57:08
    Jada_Ringo
Well, Mia is 22 and Zoe is 18. So I see what you're coming from. They're a bit too young to play Johanna.
