NEW MUSIC NOW > Michael Kiwanuka: What Are You Listening to This Week?

Fergie 2012/08/09 22:00:00
Meet SodaHead's new favorite artist of the week! Last week, we gave you a double dose of Twin Shadow and Hindu Pirates, and this week we can't get enough of British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka.

I've always felt like I was born a couple of decades too late and that I missed out on the golden era of music. I'm partial to 60s and 70s music, a time before auto-tune, when music was much more raw and soulful. That's why finding a musician like Michael Kiwanuka fills me with such joy. It's rare to find an artist with the soul of one of the greats (Otis Redding perhaps) whose music can sound vintage and modern at the same time. His ability to do just that makes Kiwanuka a gem.

"Tell Me A Tale" is my favorite song off of Kiwanuka's debut album Home Again. Even the hardest of hearts can be softened by his smooth voice and honest yearnings of "Lord I need good, good loving." Don't we all? Watch the video below and let us know what you're listening to this week.

You!

Heeeey baby! Tell me R&B; is coming back! Lift us out of the catacombs of rap/hip hop misery, murder and degradation and let a new day shine! I love the deep rich style of Seal but I can see this cat's inspired.

Glad to see musicians going back to actually performing again learning how to compose and play there own music . but with that said he needs better vocal techniques..just because you can pick chords on a Guitar does not make you a complete talent or artist. This whinning, Grinding sound comming out of his mouth would actually give me a headache after awhile. Find some vocals young man, hint:(church) and maybe I'll buy.. good luck!!! :( There is actually another artist similar to this old school sound can you Guess who? Anthony Hamilton! and he can actually hold a tune.

Nice Jazzy tune. Also, take note that Michael Kiwanuka is a British Black guy, not an Afro-American whose musical potential was compromised by the influence of Rap culture.

No, we're going to fix the economy, and we're going to also fix the infrastructure and end Citizens United. We're not going to leave the poor to fend for themselves like animals the way the Republicans would, either. Cheers!

Obama had four years to 'fix the economy' and guess what. The poor are fending for themselves on his watch. 24% unemployment for black youth alone. I know Excalibur is afraid to defend that record which is why he's blocking me. But what is obvious to even Obama's most ardent supporters is that fixing the economy has never been part of his plan. Obama's policies are aimed at pushing our economy over the edge so that only a dominant government will be our source of fulfilling our needs. Let me hear you say 'Cheers' if you're with him on this.
And now back to the music.....

I've had a weird obsession with some classic 70/80s rock this week. The one song on repeat mostly is Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son. Although, my dad showed me song music by The Pink Spiders. I think they might be my next obsession...
