It was young athletes, the 'next generation' (tagline for this olympics being 'inspire a generation'). they were each nominated by a great British Olympian and the flame was passed from Sir Steve Redgrave to them. A fantastic idea and truly in the spirit of things if you ask me

It was never going to be a royal or official, if it didn't go down the way it did, it would have been a great sportsman (like Radcliff).

VERY proud that the UK decided that it should be sportsman of the future. Loved that -almost cried!

The apt choice would be....Sir "4 minute mile" Roger Bannister, both Olympic hero AND British icon in one!

Hopefully, an Olympic hero like Roger Bannister or even a Olympic handicapped hero.

It's got to be Steve Redgrave, come on...I mean, he's the ONLY Brit ever to win Gold at FIVE successive Olympic Games. It's a major achievement and they should have an Olympian do it.

    Let the Games Begin!!!

That would be most appropriate: someone who had won his share of medals.
