President Obama lifted all restrictions for Americans to travel to Cuba to meet relatives and to send money. It never made sense as to why they were in place to begin with, but that simple move has prompted Raúl Castro to express his willingness to meet with Barack Obama. He is willing to discuss any topic that Barack Obama wants: "human rights, freedom of the press, political prisoners -- everything, everything, everything that they want to discuss." Barack Obama is hoping that Cuba is making progress in those above areas so that relations between United States and Cuba can improve. The U.S. government instituted the embargo three years after Fidel Castro came to power in 1959.

Of course he does, & stupid Obama will give the bastard what he wants! This will just add strength to castro too!

I never understood the embargo either, what major corps didn't want Cuban Cigars sold in America.?
And anyway Obama And his chosen czars all like dictators they look up to them. Trade OK, Freedom in American, will be fought for to protect it. God Bless America

It's important to have a dialogue with those with whom you don't agree. I have been to Cuba, the people are able to speak freely but cannot exist unless they have access to American dollars. Many other countries are maiking money trading with Cuba. Why aren't we? We deal with China and other natiions that are real threats to us and have dictators. Why do we single out this little country to isolate?

We never should have started the embargo to begin with. The only reason the U.S. had a problem with Castro is because he kicked out the American vultures who were trying to rob his country. If you don't believe me read your history.

Finally!! Some open minds might open more minds!! What good will keeping the doors locked do? I have so many friends that have traveled there in secrecy purely for tourist reasons~ they talk of a beautiful country with great people (for the most part). How are we as Americans to lead by example if we never take the first step? Mending fences is JUST as imortant as clearing the forest to build the farm in the first place!!!

I've read all your comments and the majority of you knuckleheads don't know a thing about Cuba. There were electric lights, trollies and great universaties and scholars in Cuba long before Harvard was built. There was absolutely no viable reason to embargo Cuba for 60 years. All that does is hurt people, nothing more. The Cuban people are suffering unbelievably because of this continuing embargo and for what? Why? Because it's a communist country? It seems to me we do business with Hu Jintao. I hope Obama makes great strides with Castro to open up relations and allow some relief for the Cubans here and there. I, for one, would love to visit that island.

Cuba never chose anything you dimwit. It was at the point of a gun. Why in hell is the USA so full of Cubans that have risked their lives to ESCAPE that hellhole.
As far as doing anything without congress, do you think congress has given this communist the authority to take over banks and other companies???????
