So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words "under God" to be on our money, then, so be it. And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it. I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen. I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions. I would like to think that those people have the American public's best interests at heart. BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE??? Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe the Government and its employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life. I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it's just another day. I'd like the " US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays." After all, they're just another day. I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for a "Christmas Break." After all it's just another day. I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be "politically correct." In fact.... I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshipping God...) because, after all, our government says that &nb; sp; it should be just another day.... What do you all think???? If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the "minority opinions" and begin, once again, to represent the "majority" of ALL of the American people. SO BE IT.......... These are definitely things I never thought about but from now on, I will be sure to question those in government who support these changes.

For far too long we have made concessions to minority opinions, to the point that now we have minorities making them demands or the wishs of the majority. There is a place for the minority voice to be heard and considered, when it consistantly overrides the majority it is like any other form of tyrany and must be stopped.

There’s so much going on in the USA that warrants attention these days that it’s hard to know where to start. But, since I’m an economist I’m going to start here. “There are families not eating at the end of the month,” said Stephen Quinn, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Wal-Mart Stores, and “literally lining up at midnight” at Wal-Mart stores waiting to buy food when paychecks or government checks land in their accounts. Among the steps Wal-Mart is taking to address the changes in shopping habits, Mr. Quinn listed an overhaul of the retailer’s private-label brand, Great Value, which is promoted in commercials describing how families can fix dinners with Great Value products “for less than $2 a serving.” The really sad thing about this blurb is that I got it from the Media & Advertising section of the NY Times. It did not come from the op-ed page, it did not come from the business section nor the politics section. It’s there because Walmart is having to work on its product mix to reflect hunger in those families living below the poverty living in one of the richest countries in the world –The United States–and I am deeply ashamed as a citizen of that country to read this anywhere STILL after all these years. There’s been an academic discussion about the disconnect between what some of our nation’s statistics tell us is going on and the reality on the ground. There was a conference this weekend to talk about re-working the way the nation calculates its GDP. This is extremely important. Because of globalization, we are most likely over stating our performance in way that is throwing off our policy targets. We are losing per capita income from the lowest to middle quintiles and we are hemorrhaging well-paying jobs for our most vulnerable citizens. They are not able to get enough to live on and they are not wealthy enough to buy health care insurance or to pay premium taxes to feed an already over-bloated, costly, and inefficient industry. A widening gap between data and reality is distorting the government’s picture of the country’s economic health, overstating growth and productivity in ways that could affect the political debate on issues like trade, wages and job creation. The shortcomings of the data-gathering system came through loud and clear here Friday and Saturday at a first-of-its-kind gathering of economists from academia and government determined to come up with a more accurate statistical picture. The fundamental shortcoming is in the way imports are accounted for. A carburetor bought for $50 in China as a component of an American-made car, for example, more often than not shows up in the statistics as if it were the American-made version valued at, say, $100. The failure to distinguish adequately between what is made in America and what is made abroad falsely inflates the gross domestic product, which sums up all value added within the country. American workers lose their jobs when carburetors they once made are imported instead. The federal data notices the decline in employment but fails to revalue the carburetors or even pinpoint that they are foreign-made. Because it seems as if $100 carburetors are being produced but fewer workers are needed to do so, productivity falsely rises — in the national statistics. The most interesting thing about this is that the argument is that our workers supposedly have become increasingly more productive over the last decade or so. What we might be measuring are impacts from trade instead. This goes a long way in explaining why the returns on labor (MRP or marginal revenue product) and the returns on capital are becoming so disparate. The statistical distortions can be significant. At worst, the gross domestic product would have risen at only a 3.3 percent annual rate in the third quarter instead of the 3.5 percent actually reported, according to some experts at the conference. The same gap applies to productivity. And the spread is growing as imports do. That may help to explain why the recovery from the 2001 recession was a jobless one for many months and why the recovery from this recession is likely to generate few jobs for many months. In addition, more detailed import data would help to explain wage inequality, by linking some low wages more accurately to particular industries exposed to import competition. On another front, many argue that labor productivity is rising faster than the pay of workers who made the greater productivity possible. That argument would be watered down if more accurate data showed that productivity had been overstated. Just as more and more working class families fall into the cracks, we also have the latest sham of health care where families now struggling to make ends meet with face a tax if they don’t buy health insurance from overpriced insurance industry plans. Let me point you back to a piece in Politico for this beauty. Page 29, sentence one of the bill introduced by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont) says: “The consequence for not maintaining insurance would be an excise tax.” And the rest of the bill is clear that the Finance Committee does, in fact, consider it a tax: “The excise tax would be assessed through the tax code and applied as an additional amount of Federal tax owed.” The bill requires every American, with few exceptions, to carry health insurance. To enforce this individual mandate, the Senate Finance Committee created the excise tax as a penalty for people who don’t have insurance – and it can run as much as $3,800 a year per family. The House bill also refers to the penalties for not carrying insurance as a tax. It calls for a “tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage” and amends the tax code to implement it. I have to ask what it is wrong with this country? It seems to pushing its poor to the brink of destruction during a time of when its also funding (through direct funds and also extremely low interest rates) arbitrage profits for the already rich at places like Goldman Sachs. We might as well just call them all Princes and call ourselves the new corporate serfs because we’re going to be paying for our indentured status for some time under what’s going on right now. We’re tithing for the benefit of huge financial institutions be they investment bankers, insurance, or mortgage brokers. They’ve become the residents of the neoGothic cathedrals of the 21st century dark ages of America. We’re back to ‘Still Hungry in America’ and this is ever so wrong. Oh, meanwhile, via CNN breaking news: The Dow hits 10,170 in intraday trading, its highest level in more than a year.

We hardly remember that is wasn't that long ago that in the west stealing a mans horse would lead to that persons death. So we forgave violence then and said if the victim catches the thief and kills them it was only self defense. Today the media, your boss, a coworker (false sex harrasment charges) or your own misguided children can destroy your life and we are expected to just go along with the "System". Reality is there are even fewer real safety nets now then back 200 years ago. You can't just go out in the wilderness and build a home or hunt your own food, it is forbidden. Like poaching the kings deer. Hell! A township can stop you from planting a garden on your own land if it so wishes and claim enviromental problems. We are at an increasing pace reverting to the law of the wild. Few will truely like the results. We have started down a path where there will be less justice and good will in our future. The question is how do we stop the trend?

It's a date that has spawned countless superstitions and a series of mediocre horror movies. Today is Friday the 13th, a day that is supposed to be unlucky. For what seems like forever, people have made references to the bad mojo surrounding Friday the 13th. Some people even suffer from paraskavedekatriaphobia, the fear of Friday the 13th. All this fear despite the fact that there is no evidence that Friday the 13th is unlucky. November 13, 2009 is the third Friday the 13th of 2009. As a rule, there are one to three Friday the 13ths each calendar year. So why is Friday the 13th considered unlucky? Like a lot of superstitions, the origins of Friday the 13th is a little hazy. There are precious few facts as to why people think Friday the 13th is unlucky. One theory is that the fear of Friday the 13th dates back to the Knights Templar, a theory mentioned in the Dan Brown best-seller The Da Vinci Code. Another theory is that it dates back to Norse Mythology. According to this theory, Friday is named after the Norse goddess Frigga, who was deemed a witch. After being exiled, Frigga would angrily return with 11 more witches plus the devil (13 in total) to start trouble. It seems that the prominence of Friday the 13th is a 20th century phenomenon. Some say the 1907 novel Friday, the Thirteenth by Thomas W. Lawson helped popularize the idea that Friday the 13th was unlucky. In the book, a nefarious stockbroker orchestrates a panic on Wall Street by preying on people's superstitious beliefs. Ironically, this work of fiction about the perils of superstition may have spawned a real-life superstition that is still going strong a century after it was written.

I thought one of the purposes of the Health Care Bill was to stop denial of health care due to preexisting conditions. If this is true, why did Democrats in the House vote against an amendment that would have stopped this practice without raising the federal deficit. They also voted against an amendment that would have protected Medicare benefits for seniors. --------------------- Part of newsletter from Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) Washington Update: Providing Healthcare Coverage for Preexisting Conditions Congressman Forbes supported a substitute amendment to H.R. 3962, which would have guaranteed coverage for those individuals with preexisting conditions without increasing the federal deficit. In addition, the amendment would have also reduced costly medical lawsuits and preserved Medicare benefits for seniors. This measure failed by a vote of 176-258. Supported protecting Medicare benefits for seniors. Congressman Forbes voted to amend the healthcare bill to ensure seniors do not lose any necessary coverage that could result from the $500 billion in Medicare cuts included in the current health care bill, H.R. 3962. This amendment failed by a vote of 187-247. Submitted three amendments to the healthcare bill. These amendments would have 1) protected consumers from certain insurance cancellations, 2) prioritized federal ethical stem cell research towards those that seem most likely to cure and treat patients, and 3) increased the use of medical modeling & simulate to reduce medical errors and save billions in healthcare costs. None of these bipartisan proposals were considered by the House majority leadership. Of the 216 amendments submitted by Members of Congress to the Majority for consideration, only two amendments were accepted. Made the healthcare bill available to the public. Congressman Forbes delivered copies of the healthcare reform bill, H.R. 3962, to public libraries across the Fourth District prior to voting on the bill. Opposed federal funding for abortion. Congressman Forbes supported an amendment to H.R. 3962, offered by Congressmen Joseph Pitts and Bart Stupak, to prohibit federal funding of abortion in the healthcare bill. This amendment passed by a vote of 240-194.

Apparently, Army officials were afraid that they would be accused of discrimination under Obama's watch if they had detained Hasan based on his emails, power point presentations, website postings and comments overheard by soldiers... all of which easily revealed his Islamic extremist views.

An official announcement is expected later today. The actual transfer of the detainees isn't expected to happen for weeks because formal charges have not been filed, but the move is in line with the increasingly difficult goal of shutting Gitmo early next year, the AP notes. Mohammed, who authorities say was waterboarded 183 times, told interrogators that he was the mastermind of the attacks, He claims to have proposed the concept to Osama bin Laden as early as 1996, obtained funding for the attacks from bin Laden, oversaw the operation, and trained the hijackers in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
