This is the United States of America and so far it's still a free country. The taking over of private industry, the bailouts, the special interests, and the "paying off" of those that help with the Obama agenda is disgusting and illegal. Why is it that no one is addressing the fact that this is going on? Why are our elected officials turning their collective heads and allowing and promoting this behavior when what should be happening is prosecution of those doing these acts. Senator, why is Obama assembling groups of advisors and czars who answer to no one but him and they are not vetted? Does the congress and the senate want to answer to the people about the Marxist/Communist collection of advisors and czars that Obama has in place? The American people demand a full vetting process and full disclosure on each and everyone. How is it that ex-convicts and self-proclaimed Marxist/Communists are any where near the White House or our president? Do you think maybe it's because Obama himself is a Communist enthusiast as he stated in his book? I think it's time we take heed of Obama's own words and believe him when he says he was mentored by Frank Marshall Davis as a youth on the ways of Communism. I think we should believe him when he says he is going to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA, because my dear senator, he is, and he is doing it in lightning speed, straight in to COMMUNISM. The vetting process for Obama was either overlooked or ignored entirely because to this day, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHO HE REALLY IS, WHERE HE CAME FROM OR HOW HE GOT HERE. He has effectively hidden this information from us and is using the same subversive behavior in acquiring his advisors and czars. He is demanding the CIA, once again be investigated while exposing our nation's secrets and tactics, well the American people want full disclosure on Obama. We want him to lay out for all to see, the records from kindergarten to date that he is using campaign funds to conceal. Why would he feel the need to legally protect kindergarten records, passport, adoption records, college records, birth certificate, in short, every detail of his life? This is a man that wants our nation's secrets exposed while hiding every detail of his own life. This is a man asking for trust but how do you trust someone that hides his entire past from us and then say TRUST ME? TRUST IS EARNED, NOT GIVEN. Senator, I warn you, the people are getting angry and scared and they want the truth about him and the truth about the people he is allowing to write his bill, plan his strategy and make his decisions. Senator, WE WANT FULL DISCLOSURE ON OBAMA, HIS ADVISORS, AND HIS CZARS. WE WILL NOT ALLOW SOMEONE WHO HIDES EVERY DETAIL OF HIS LIFE FROM THE PEOPLE WITH A BARRAGE OF LAWYERS DESTROY OUR COUNTRY. THE PEOPLE ARE TALKING IMPEACHMENT AND I FOR ONE TOTALLY AGREE. WE NOT ONLY NEED TO IMPEACH OBAMA AND TRY HIM FOR CRIMES AGAINST THE COUNTRY, BUT PURGE CONGRESS AS WELL. THE PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO STAND BY AND WATCH MARXIST/COMMUNISTS AND THEIR SYMPATHIZERS DESTROY EVERYTHING THIS COUNTRY STANDS FOR. EITHER YOU ARE A TRUE PATRIOTIC AMERICAN AND STAND WITH THE PEOPLE, OR YOU ARE AGAINST THIS COUNTRY AND US. CHOOSE YOUR SIDE WISELY. Jones PRINCETON, NJ -- A new USA Today/Gallup poll finds that only half of Americans plan to travel this summer, and of those with plans, 52% (or 25% of all Americans) say they are altering those plans in response to the current economic recession. The poll was conducted May 18-19 in advance of the summer travel season, which is traditionally kicked off by the Memorial Day holiday weekend. It is possible that the impact of the recession may be even greater than the poll results discussed above suggest. The 50% of Americans who indicated they do not have travel plans this summer is significantly higher than what Gallup found in both 2006 (38%) and 2008 (41%), when it sought to assess the impact of high gas prices on summer travel plans. Thus, it's possible that the recession is causing a significant proportion of Americans who traveled in previous summers to rule out taking a vacation this year. As might be expected, the poor economy is having its greatest impact on lower-income Americans. There seems to be a tipping point at $60,000 annual household income, with those at or above that limit more likely to say they will go ahead with their plans unaltered than change them, and the reverse true for those below that income level. Those who are changing their summer recreation plans to meet the challenges of the economic recession are relying on a variety of techniques to do so. When those in this group are asked to say whether each of five different actions is a way in which they have changed their plans, the most commonly cited change is cutting back on the total cost of a vacation by spending less on food, lodging, and entertainment. Eighty-nine percent say they have changed their plans in this manner. Seventy-three percent say they will vacation somewhere closer to home than they originally planned to. Additionally, 63% of those who are revising their plans are taking the most drastic step of canceling outright one or more trips they planned to take. That translates to 32% of those who had summer travel plans, and 16% of all Americans. The seriousness of the economic situation is underscored by the finding that most of those who have had to change their plans this year do not expect these remedies to be temporary. The poll finds fully 75% of those who are changing their plans this year saying they expect the economy to force them to do so again next year (42%) or even beyond the next two years (33%). Implications Gas prices have been rising in recent weeks, but remain well below where they were last year at this time. That may not matter as much to Americans as the effects of the broader economic recession, which is causing about half of Americans who planned to travel this summer (about one-fourth of the total population) to revise those plans. But the effects of the recession may go beyond those figures, given the apparent increase this year in the percentage of Americans who do not have travel plans, and the fact that many who were forced to adjust this year expect to have to do so again next year and possibly beyond. That certainly is not welcome news for the travel industry. And with Americans cutting back on spending in general, the summer of 2009 may end up producing a lot fewer vacation memories than prior summers. Survey Methods Results are based on telephone interviews with 984 national adults, aged 18 and older, conducted May 18-19, 2009, as part of Gallup Poll Daily tracking. For results based on the total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points. Interviews are conducted with respondents on land-line telephones (for respondents with a land-line telephone) and cellular phones (for respondents who are cell-phone only). In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

ANNETTE answered
   No
and said : What recession? 2009-05-23T00:04:06Z 2009-05-23T00:04:06Z ANNETTE Do you respect Expectant Mother parking spaces? http://www.sodahead.com/question/391427 Do you respect Expectant Mother parking spaces?
(Living)

  390 answers, +52 raves

ANNETTE answered
   No
and said : I had three babies before the days of pregnant parking. I know some have argued that brutal methods like water-boarding were necessary to keep us safe. I could not disagree more. As commander-in-chief, I see the intelligence, I bear responsibility for keeping this country safe and I reject the assertion that these are the most effective means of interrogation. What's more, they undermine the rule of law. "They alienate us in the world. They serve as a recruitment tool for terrorists, and increase the will of our enemies to fight us, while decreasing the will of others to work with America. They risk the lives of our troops by making it less likely that others will surrender to them in battle and more likely that Americans will be mistreated if they are captured. In short, they did not advance our war and counter-terrorism efforts -- they undermined them, and that is why I ended them once and for all." Former Vice President Dick Cheney: "I was and remain a strong proponent of our enhanced interrogation program. The interrogations were used on hardened terrorists after other efforts failed. They were legal, essential, justified, successful and the right thing to do. The intelligence officers who questioned the terrorists can be proud of their work and proud of the results, because they prevented the violent death of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of innocent people." On Prosecuting Guantanamo Detainees President Obama: "When feasible, we will try those who have violated American criminal laws in federal courts -- courts provided for by the United States Constitution. Some have derided our federal courts as incapable of handling the trials of terrorists. They are wrong. Our courts and juries of our citizens are tough enough to convict terrorists, and the record makes that clear." Former Vice President Dick Cheney: "Attorney General Holder and others have admitted that the United States will be compelled to accept a number of the terrorists here, in the homeland, and it has even been suggested U.S. taxpayer dollars will be used to support them. On this one, I find myself in complete agreement with many in the president's own party. Unsure how to explain to their constituents why terrorists might soon be relocating into their states, these Democrats chose instead to strip funding for such a move out of the most recent war supplemental. The Politicization of National Security President Obama: "I understand that these problems arouse passions and concerns. They should. We are confronting some of the most complicated questions that a democracy can face. But I have no interest in spending our time re-litigating the policies of the last eight years. I want to solve these problems, and I want to solve them together as Americans. "And we will be ill-served by some of the fear-mongering that emerges whenever we discuss this issue. Listening to the recent debate, I've heard words that are calculated to scare people rather than educate them; words that have more to do with politics than protecting our country." Former Vice President Cheney: "The administration seems to pride itself on searching for some kind of middle ground in policies addressing terrorism. They may take comfort in hearing disagreement from opposite ends of the spectrum. If liberals are unhappy about some decisions, and conservatives are unhappy about other decisions, then it may seem to them that the president is on the path of sensible compromise. "But in the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground, and half-measures keep you half exposed. You cannot keep just some nuclear-armed terrorists out of the United States, you must keep every nuclear-armed terrorist out of the United States. Triangulation is a political strategy, not a national security strategy. When just a single clue that goes unlearned one lead that goes unpursued can bring on catastrophe -- it's no time for splitting differences. There is never a good time to compromise when the lives and safety of the American people are in the balance." Support of U.S. Allies President Obama: "The prison at Guantanamo has weakened American national security. It is a rallying cry for our enemies. It sets back the willingness of our allies to work with us in fighting an enemy that operates in scores of countries. By any measure, the costs of keeping it open far exceed the complications involved in closing it. ... "I do know with certainty that we can defeat Al Qaeda. Because the terrorists can only succeed if they swell their ranks and alienate America from our allies, and they will never be able to do that if we stay true to who we are; if we forge tough and durable approaches to fighting terrorism that are anchored in our timeless ideals." Former Vice President Cheney: "The administration has found that it's easy to receive applause in Europe for closing Guantanamo. But it's tricky to come up with an alternative that will serve the interests of justice and America's national security. ... "Now the president says some of these terrorists should be brought to American soil for trial in our court system. Others, he says, will be shipped to third countries. But so far, the United States has had little luck getting other countries to take hardened terrorists." Preserving American Values President Obama: "We uphold our most cherished values not only because doing so is right, but because it strengthens our country and keeps us safe. Time and again, our values have been our best national security asset -- in war and peace; in times of ease and in eras of upheaval. ... "The decisions that were made over the last eight years established an ad hoc legal approach for fighting terrorism that was neither effective nor sustainable -- a framework that failed to rely on our legal traditions and time-tested institutions; that failed to use our values as a compass. And that is why I took several steps upon taking office to better protect the American people." Former Vice President Cheney: "It is much closer to the truth that terrorists hate this country precisely because of the values we profess and seek to live by, not by some alleged failure to do so. Nor are terrorists or those who see them as victims exactly the best judges of America's moral standards, one way or the other. Critics of our policies are given to lecturing on the theme of being consistent with American values. "But no moral value held dear by the American people obliges public servants to sacrifice innocent lives to spare a captured terrorist from unpleasant things. And when an entire population is targeted by a terror network, nothing is more consistent with American values than to stop them." The Release of Classified Information President Obama: "The argument that somehow by releasing those memos, we are providing terrorists with information about how they will be interrogated is unfounded -- we will not be interrogating terrorists using that approach, because that approach is now prohibited. In short, I released these memos because there was no overriding reason to protect them. And the ensuing debate has helped the American people better understand how these interrogation methods came to be authorized and used. Former Vice President Cheney: "Somehow, when the soul-searching was done and the veil was lifted on the policies of the Bush administration, the public was given less than half the truth. The released memos were carefully redacted to leave out references to what our government learned through the methods in question. Other memos, laying out specific terrorist plots that were averted, apparently were not even considered for release. For reasons the administration has yet to explain, they believe the public has a right to know the method of the questions, but not the content of the answers." On Upholding the Constitution President Obama: "I want to be very clear that our goal is to construct a legitimate legal framework for Guantanamo detainees -- not to avoid one. In our constitutional system, prolonged detention should not be the decision of any one man. If and when we determine that the United States must hold individuals to keep them from carrying out an act of war, we will do so within a system that involves judicial and congressional oversight. And so going forward, my Administration will work with Congress to develop an appropriate legal regime so that our efforts are consistent with our values and our Constitution." Former Vice President Cheney: "The key to any strategy is accurate intelligence, and skilled professionals to get that information in time to use it. In seeking to guard this nation against the threat of catastrophic violence, our administration gave intelligence officers the tools and lawful authority they needed to gain vital information. We didn't invent that authority. It is drawn from Article Two of the Constitution. And it was given specificity by the Congress after 9/11, in a Joint Resolution authorizing 'all necessary and appropriate force' to protect the American people."

ANNETTE answered
Former Vice President Cheney 2009-05-22T23:48:19Z 2009-05-22T23:48:19Z ANNETTE Do you think public schools should have uniforms? http://www.sodahead.com/question/376559 Do you think public schools should have uniforms?
(Living)

  277 answers, +17 raves
Uniforms have good and bad sides.
