It has that setting because certain types of toast require higher temperatures and longer time than others. I eat oatmeal bread and sometimes whole grain wheat bread and it's harder to toast than white or light grain breads. So I set mine to 12 when I toast my bread and it comes out golden brown.

WOW. I met him once when he came here (Columbus, Ohio) for a show years ago (around 1995) and he was cool as hell. I wasn't a big fan of his music then but I always had love for that brother because he wasn't the stuck up arrogant superstar full of himself type of cat. He was down to earth and we even puffed la la (that's weed for the ebonically impaired) together back stage. This is sad news, my condolences to his family.
