Automakers looking for bailout -- Should the government let them sink?

    140 236
Yes, let the Big 3 fail. Enough of the bailouts!
If they were competitive and built cars people actually wanted to drive, they would make money. Of course their biggest problem is the unions and no politician that receives financing from them is going to go against them. Let them fall, someone else more innovative, more ambitious with a better product will result. Also, I saw something interesting on Fox that helped put this in context. Besides the 10 million in bonuses that Chrysler just paid out to its executives-the ones wanting the bailout, it was said "how is it fair for the US government to use a tax money from a taxpayer making $15 an hour to save the jobs of someone making $75". If we bail them out now, they will be back again in 10 or 15 years (if that long) back again in trouble. They need to change their business models and look to Japan for inspiration. They don't pay out bonuses when income is low, the CEO's kill themselves in disgrace!

I cannot believe we have progresses or rather regressed, depending on the point of view to this. Socialism! Bad investments and money management should not lead to government bailouts. Otherwise, the government owes me some money from the last stock market crash! It is natural in a free market economy for some to fail, allowing others to pick up their pieces and survive and grow. "Survival of the fittest"!

I understand he is not alone, my ancestors are....
Mine are with you and it has less to do with our race and more to do with the fact that I am a registered Daughter of the American Revolution. And I know that this government is not what my relatives had in mind when they came over and helped found this nation! Of course, to be fair the Repubs have been disappointing as well with the bailouts and growing government...

Can't people simply be tolerant of others
Sorry, I voted yes on prop 8. For me it had less to do with homosexuals and more to do with voter rights. I knwo alot of other people feel the same way. It is not up to the government to legislate marriage, but it is also not up to a court to decide that it knows better than its voting citizens. I am all for civil unions and I cannot understand why that is not pushed more. I agree that 2 people that live and love the same as my husband and I do should be afforded the same LEGAL rights. But I feel MARRIAGE is a contract between a man and a woman under God and therefore it is a Christian value. I think you are also missing a key point on how it passed. Exit polling showed that blacks supported the measure, while whites were split with Asians and Latinos. If that is indeed true as the AP reports, then it would have likely failed had Barack not been on the ballot-causing record numbers af blacks to turn out...maybe in another election year.

I hate Bush...but I love America...I don't want the government taking care of me!
I don't hate Bush. But it is sad that our country has given us so little in the way of choice and this is the best we can offer in the way of Presidential choices. America was great while it lasted, but I agree what is coming in barack is elected and the Congress stays Dem, will be very bad. I am sorry that others cannot see this, but not surprised. The government is meant to run the affairs of the country, not the individual citizen's life, budget or wallet...

Yes - even if we disagree, I still respect your choice.
Of course. It is the very principal of this country. As long as you make an INFORMED vote. I see alot of fear mongering on both sides. And if I hear "rock star" one more time I will hurl. Presidents aren't "rock stars" they are statesmen and leaders. It is more important what occurs in Congress. If Barack does win, no worries-all it will take is one more 9/11 to bring him up to speed where he needs experience. But are you willing to be in the towers this time...

Who do you blame for the financial crisis?

Who do you blame for the financial crisis?

    1,749 1,767
The Financial Crisis is the fault of...
CONSUMERS-buying things we cannot afford, because we want them or think we deserve them. Bush has issues, but this is not his fault. Congress is worthless too, but again it is not their fault. It is the fault of those people loaning money and goods to people that have no business buying them. Homeownership is not a right, it is a priveledge. It is something earned by hard work and savings. Self-responsibility has become a foreign concept to Americans. I could take my good credit into any car showroom and walk out with a $70k automobile. But in 6 months, could I afford to pay the payments. What about insurance and gas, maintenance. Just like with the sub prime borrowers, it looks good on paper for a few years, but what about when the arm adjusts and how you bought into an inflated market-causing you to be upside down in your home before you even move in. And your credit is borderline? How will you possibly refi when your arm adjusts to a reasonable loan....Oh, I know, just walk away from your home and debts and blame everyone else!!

This is tough, there should be a "c. both" choice. The 2 movies were totally different. Jack Nicholson's version was in a more comic book fashioned movie, while Heath's was a more modern, dark edgy film.
