Why do people feel they need to believe in a religion?

    20 88
    Yes
Again - a question that can't be answered "yes" or "no". I'm not sure that people necessarily feel a "need" to believe". Some people have had personal experiences that can't be explained in material universe terms. It is very real to them. Every religion has beliefs that defy modern scientific thinking. It is inconsistent with physics & biology & can't be debated on those terms. For someone like yourself who may not have had those experiences, understanding religion or a belief in the intangible, seems "strange". I'm not meaning at all to be condescending to you, Irishnurse, but its something that you experience & know to be true, or you don't. Again - I'm not insinuating that you are any lesser for not believing. That is NOT my intent. I'm just trying to explain that there are differences here that cannot be debated or explained away easily. Personally, I believe that I am a spiritual being, housed in a physical body. I am, though, not my body. There is no way I can explain that to someone who hasn't had that same experience.

    Most evil religon?

    31 146
    None of the above
None of these are evil, that I am aware of. Individuals, sometimes hiding behind their religion, or taking things out of context, or those who are fanatical certainly push my buttons -- but I wouldn't call them "evil". If they harm others, that's evil. Often its' the person, but not the religion.

Why is it impossible to have an intelligent discussion about religious beliefs and their contradictions without being called hateful by religious believers?

    26 155
    No
Your question doesn't call for a "yes" or "no" answer. Here's my experience though: Very often the comments are derrogatory, people are called "idiots" & "morons" & worse because they have certain religious beliefs. Religion is a very personal thing to those who believe. The discussions don't seem to be "intelligent" when the comments go so far south, into insults. Very often, certain polls are created with the only intention to belittle certain groups for their beliefs.

He seems like a more mellowed family man. He's human. He admitted that he made some mistakes. I found that refreshing. He's obviously an individual who has deep feelings for his wife and children, and a man with integrity.

I like the idea of everyone coming together regardless of faith & praying together. Of course, we don't need to pray on a specified day -but there is nothing wrong with this. Anything that brings people together, especially of all faiths, is fine by me!

    is your house haunted?

    Is your house haunted?

    24 40
    Yes
Although it isn't anything scary. I've lived in this home for 20 years & I often catch site of something in my peripheral vision. Its very fleeting & often just outside my kitchen window. I often check to see if someone is there. I never mentioned it to anyone. Several months ago my daughter said "mom, I think our house is haunted. I catch site of someone in our kitchen. Then I look & they're gone." I then told her about my experience. We both agreed it was nothing to be afraid of... just an interesting phenomenon.

Why do people use bad grammar and punctuation when asking a question?

    38 118
    Because......
many people do not have a good command of the English language. Its amazing to me how many high school graduates, and even those who are college educated fall in to this category. Its a sad commentary on education in the U.S. (However, there are certainly exceptions out there who are exemplary teachers, such as Soda Head Min Carter!)

Are homosexuals born gay, or is it their choice?

    3,712 6,687
    Undecided
I honestly feel that it can be both. For example, I've seen boys who have all the attributes of being female - not because of affectation alone, but their features are very feminine and their bodies are slight, etc. I would suspect that there is something in their genetic make-up. Other cases, probably more prevalent, may be the results of their childhood. It also may be a combination of both.

Um, you can't get to OT 7 without being OT 6... Idiot.
I have been a scientologist for over 30 years. Applying the tools that I have learned in Scientology to my life has made me successful personally and professionally. Scientology is involved in more social betterment activities than any other group today. It is also the fastest growing religion. If it isn't for you - so be it. But to put up a poll to ridicule 1 religous group or another is against all of the ideals upon which this country is based.

No question. The guilty person will probably continue breaking the law & be back in prison again in no time, anyway.
