I hope that she does get the nomination because she is so far to the Red/Right that no moderate or independent voter would back her. The Republican Party would be forced to re-evaluate where the party wants go and what role it can play in the future after a resounding loss with Palin as the Republican Standard Bearer. The Republican Party tried to expand its base by bringing in extremists, and ended up alienating its moderate base. Palin appeals to the extremists that only recently were brought into the Republican fold.
