I think it's too soon to define it's message. A pilot is just an introduction to the show and hardly enough to define an entire series. Let the show find it's feet before we start trying to pigeon-hole it or write it off. Also, I'd suggest adding family to this list. Between Jamie's sister, losing her baby and the hints to their past with their father, it seems to be a big aspect of what defines Jamie.
