personaly i would extend it to anyone with a condition so painful or disabling that they would prefer death. after nursing for years (not any more burned out) and caring for many dying family members i would not limit it to a 6 month life expectancy. if i developed a disorder that would deprive me of my body and mind while leaving me to live for years in a shell, i would put an end to it as soon as i realized that my future was a bleak stretch of pain or mindlessness. i would certainly hope for the compassion we show our beloved animal companions.
