BackRaves

McCain is an honorable Senator. I voted for him in 2000. But the world has changed since then. After the Bush administration, we need someone who can mend our international relations with diplomacy, not military threats. McCain tried to kick Russia out of the G8 last week--not China, but Russia--because he didn't think they were democratic enough or in strong enough support of free trade. Bush's "with us or against us" rhetoric already has Russia making Cold-War-esque allegiances against the US again. But it's not too late to undo the damages that Bush has done. Also, economically, McCain is clueless. His proposed expansion of the tax cuts is merely his pandering to Bush supporters. In the same economic plan that includes expanding the Bush tax cuts and maintaining the war in Iraq, he vows to balance the budget--by merely line-item vetoing all pork barrel projects without discretion. Bear in mind, levee repair like what we needed in New Orleans before Katrina is included in those pork-barrel projects. Rather than blindly vetoing all of them, he should execute a little discretion. Don't you think? Again, I believe McCain is honorable, and I'm glad he's the Senate's maverick. He's there to keep everyone else in check. But in today's world, he's a better legislator than an executor.
