I hear you. But (1) I think it is increasingly unlikely it will be the Veep spot rather than a Cabinet position, and (2) if it does happen, then these youngsters are going to have to be mentored by those of us who have been through an election or two that what is being compromised is not principle, but foolish and ignorant pride. Think of a tree in a strong wind -- if it does not bend, it will break. Or think of the melding of the campaigns should it occur not as compromise but as the same type of process that is performed on metal -- for the best steel to be produced, iron ore must have another metal annealed to it, it must be tempered in order to harden and strengthen the resulting metal. The product is greater by far than the original ingredients. This should not dampen or diminish anyone's enthusiasm, but it should hopefully help folks to visualize that what is necessary for a political campaign to win in the general election is for it to become transcendent. Right now, Obama *does* have problems in swing states; we need to draw as many Hillary people back into into the Democratic ranks as possible. If she is not the nominee, then she will be able to help by forcefully siding with Obama and passionately urging her supporters and surrogates to do likewise. That task becomes easier for her, and infinitely more difficult for her followers to ignore as good sportswomanship, if she is clearly somehow a part of Obama's campaign.
