That Jamestown Quadricentinnial must have been really good. I hope to see the South again, preferably on my way to Europe to work in one of the DODEA schools in Germany. One in particular would be the one at Wiesbaden.

I was in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. I was just a sailor, an Electronic Warfare Technician on destroyers. I had a Triumph Spitfire convertible that I used to take to Virginia Beach at dawn. We would swim at sunrise and leave when the crowds came. On the way home we would stop at the farmer's markets. On some days we would go crabbing with string, chicken parts, and a net.

View all 399 comments »In May of 1964 the 4th grade classes took a three day trip to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and Richmond.
While in Richmond we were in the Church where Patrick Henry delivered his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. The guide singled me out, "The boy in the green shirt please stand up."
I stood up.
She told me that I had been sitting in Patrick Henry's seat and that I was standing right where Mr. Henry stood when he made the speech. Of about 50-60 kids, I had that privilege. It has been 48 years but I still remember that. As a History teacher, I tell the kids that story and most of them enjoy it.
You are a tarheel I see. I grew up around Fort Bragg, Fayetteville and Buie's Creek over in Harnett County.
I'd like to tell you a story sometime tying me to one of your favorite people, Patrick Henry. I'll PM it to you later.
The music you have in here is beautiful.
