The issue is what you resort to when our rational framework, limited as it is, fails to provide concepts we can understand. For me, adding a divine being to the equation doesn't help -- it raises more questions than it answers.
The question of evolution vs. other ideas is more limited and easier to deal with, though. I am convinced that there are unwritten chapters in this book, but I'm equally convinced that it's the best explanation we have at this point.
