About Me

I served in the Marines and U.S. Navy, a total of 22 1/2 years. I finished up for my bachelor's degree in engineering and math while in the Navy, and completed three years of night law school at my last shore-duty station before retiring. I got my JD (juris doctorate) about six months after I retired and passed the California Bar Exam the first time I took it. I spent 27 years practicing law, mostly defending civil law suits.

Activities

Walking, reading, research on subjects that interest me

Favorite Music

NIkki Yanofsky - This little girl from Canada (now 17) has more talent than all of the "American Idol" winners combined. Of course I'm partial to jazz and loved Ella Fitzgerald.

The Good Wife - most accurate court room trial scenes I've seen.
"Castle" - two very appealing lead actors, with (usually) good stories and scripts

Favorite Books

PIllars of the Earth (Ken Follett), Winds of War, War and Remembrance (Herman Wouk)

Favorite Quotes

“A nation trying to spend itself out of poverty is like standing in a bucket and trying to lift yourself up by the handle.” Winston Churchill

Thanks - I had not heard about the cities that wanted Enterprise.

The Navy has stated that the same mistake they made with CV-6 will not be repeated, so don't give up Hope. There are several cities on all three coasts that want Her and even the Naval Academy has said that it's possible to moor Her there.
The Future's not here yet, so don't hang Your head. No one's going to forget Enterprise or Arizona.

I was able to watch a Net Feed of the decommissioning ceremony because I wasn't able to get time to drive down to Norfolk. I might not have been able to get on base anyway since I'm not active or invited. I'm not angry or bitter but I'm not ashamed to say that I was misty eyes when the Commissioning Pennant and Admirals Flag were lowered and the MCPO was ordered to remove the Battle Group Plaque.
    It was The End.
I'm a little consoled at SecNav saying that CVN-80 will be named USS Enterprise, but that is not until 2019-2025 and it won't be the same as the Original CVN.
God Grant that they DON'T scrap Her. Too Fine a Lady/Ship for that. USS Nautilus SSN-571 is a Museum docked at Groton and has numerous tourists year round. They can do the same with Enterprise.

She was built in Newport News, VA and was homeported for a time in Norfolk. Both cities feel that She "belongs" to them and I had wondered what would be done with the reactors. There is a deep shaft at Yucca Flats, NV that could safely house all eight reactors, but Hanford's been in business since the days of the "Manhatten Project," so they know what to do.
NYC, Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC and several other East and West Coast would like to have Her for a Museum, but the Navy, from what I've heard, wants to proceed VERY CAREFULLY on that because of memories of what happened to CV-6 after the War.
