  Wow, that's unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear you ended up unemployed and missed out on the reception, but I do agree those kind of opportunities are very rare indeed. I hope you get another chance to attend one or something similar in future.
  
  A few years ago, around the time the TNG movie 'Nemesis' came out, they head an exhibition called 'The Star Trek Experience' at Hyde Park in London and I'd not long split up with a girl I'd lived with for the past few years, but we ordered our tickets before we spilt and it was a once in a lifetime thing, we were going to get to meet Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes, so we decided to put aside our differences and go together as friends. I'm so glad we did, because I would never have gotten to stand on the bridge of the TNG bridge any other way. We saw some pretty cool stuff, Quark's Bar, the original Star Trek bridge and I had my picture taken on Voyager's Transporter Pad. The thing that annoyed me was we were told beforehand not to bring cameras or recording equipment, so we didn't, but when we got there EVERYONE was recording on video cameras and taking pictures. Not only that, but apparently they opened the day before, so we were never going to see any celebrities.
