About Me

I'm a sophomore at a small liberal arts college in the Midwest. I'm probably going to major in Modern Languages (Chinese and Spanish), but I want to be a teacher after I graduate. 我学中文学了七年多了,但是还不流利。 =) 我的中文名字是穆琳琳。

I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative, meaning I think the government should be as small as possible and not interfere with its citizens unless those people are infringing on their fellow citizens' rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I am an adamant advocater for gay rights. I do not require your approval, but I demand to not be treated as a second class citizen in the country where I was born and have lived my entire life. I have never once heard a legitimate argument against gay marriage.

  • Oh! It was SOOO fun. I mean, the Little Mermaid is my favorite movie, so I of course was a bit tough on it. But I had a great time. The Flounder costume was a bit disappointing and weak, and one of Ursula's original songs were a bit annoying, but i mean, what can I say? I had a great time! You should see it sometime, if you ever have the chance! :-D

Since the policy was first introduced in 1993, nearly 12,500 troops have been discharged from the military due to homosexuality or suspected homosexuality.

In February 2005, the Government Accountability Office reported $95.4 million in recruiting costs and $95.1 million for training replacements for the 9,488 troops discharged from 1994 through 2003.

In February 2006, a University of California Blue Ribbon Commission concluded that figure should be closer to $363 million, including $14.3 million for "separation travel" once a service member is discharged, $17.8 million for training officers, $252.4 million for training enlistees and $79.3 million in recruiting costs.

If people want to cut spending, they should start here.

I LOVE dress five, though. I really like the ivory, slightly off-white color, off-the-shoulder straps, and the exotic yet sophisticated vaguely 1800s Mexico silhouette, especially with the gathering of the over-skirt at the sides. It's not too poofy, either, which is something I don't like about some of the other dresses.

It reminds me of Catherine Zeta-Jones's dresses in the Zorro films, which in my opinion were beautifully costumed.

NOT all Muslims approve of this legislation, as you would see if you read the article or any other article regarding it, just like not all Christians believe LGBT people should be considered second-class citizens. Yes, the law is wrong and should be immediately repealed, but saying "Muslims approve" of it is offensive, even to me, an atheist woman. (more)
  • +3 raves Marriage is not and has never been a purely Christian institution. Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhis... Marriage is not and has never been a purely Christian institution. Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and followers of almost every other religion have marriages, and all are legally recognized under US law--even though none get married in the Christian Church.

If, however, you still maintain marriage is a Christian institution, what place does that belief have in the law? The First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees religious freedom for citizens of the United States--which limiting a government institution to the members of one religion would violate, and would begin the transformation of the US into a theocracy, which it is not and should not ever be.

If you still wish to keep marriage a Christian institution, the government should not have the ability to grant marriages to ANY couple. The government should grant civil unions to all couples, gay or straight, and leave "marriage" completely up to the churches, because "separate but equal" institutions were not acceptable in the past, and will not be acceptable now.

And, my last argument: I don't believe the Bible condemns homosexuality any more than it condemns eating pork or using more than one type of fabric in an item of clothing.

You're one of the few intelligent, open-minded people left here, at least that I can find. I really enjoy reading your posts and answering your questions. It's a nice break from all the shitheads that seem to swarm some of the polls.

Tell teenagers that abstinence is best, but also teach the proper way to use contraception. Teenagers (the largest source of abortions) always have and always will have sex out of wedlock (I'm not saying they all will, but many do), so teaching them how to do it safely is very important.
