About Me

I am an empty Nester, and have finally returned to university after raising 8 children who are a combination of yours, ours, and four sibling wards. After 10 years of widowhood my current husband & I met on a dating site four years ago and have been married for three years. I moved from a small town in the redwoods of California to a large desert city. Huge culture shock! Like many of us I have suffered my share of loss and grief. I am here for conversation, to share thoughts and ideas. I am open to civil discourse and disagreement. I try to base my opinions on verifiable information from trustworthy sources. I consider myself a moderate. If I had to declare my political affiliation I would find it difficult because I fit equally well as a conservative Dem or a liberal Republican. I believe in "live and let live", and that the civilized course in a clash of core beliefs and ideology is to "agree to disagree". We all have equal right to our opinions and beliefs. However, opinions are just that, opinions and are often based on faulty data or the unconscious cultural lens developed through acculturation. These can be vigorously debated and challenged. Fundamental core beliefs, on the other hand, are not debatable and each of us should respect the equal right of each of us to hold these regardless of factual evidence or lack of evidence. Nobody has a right to ridicule or abuse another. I will ignore anyone who engages in abuse, but I will not block them because I believe in free speech and free expression. I do not know everything there is to know in the world, and in fact have a great deal to learn about life and the world. I believe life is a journey of growth. Experiences, both good and bad, as well as mistakes, are lessons which help us attain that growth. I have had many experiences and make my share of mistakes and so have grown a great deal. lol

Gandhi

I love learning new things; my current favorite hobby is learning about all things related to home computers, networking, and building. My husband and I enjoy playing with building systems together. I enjoy reading, music, nature, visiting model homes for ideas when we build our own in the future.

Jazz, country, soft rock, pop. most everything except Reggie or Rap.

House, NCIS, CSI, E.R., George Lopez, America's Got Talent, Wheel of Fortune, Deal or No Deal, Suze Orman.

The Green Mile, Brave Heart, Mad Max, Big,

I am an avid reader and read about anything, both fiction and non-fiction, technical books, and anything I find of interest and catches my imagination. I adore a well written novel where the characters come to life so well you remember them like good friends you are sorry to say goodbye to.

My dad, who claimed me as his own when I was six months old and adopted me when I was one year old. He is the best father in the world because he is MY dad and has always loved me equally as his blood children. He is one of the biggest blessings of my life. I will forever adore and respect him. He is a perfect example of the fact blood has nothing to do with "family".

Don't let those mean spirited, willfully blind, abusive folk run you off. They don't even know you or mean anything to you in the larger scheme of your life. Ignore them and concentrate on your message and those who are willing to listen, who are open minded enough to hear or see the truth when it bites them in the behind. There were plenty of Royalists during the Revolutionary War who were either to scared of the changes that having their own country would bring, or plain cowards too scared of what sacrifices they might be called upon to make in wrenching freedom from their oppressors. We still have folks like that today, nothing really changes down through the years. Focus on those who are intelligent enough to listen and learn. Your messages are important, YOU are important.

That is all I will say in this public sphere. I am glad you returned, Will.

The possibility of severe wrong doing by powerful Western corperations in less powerful and extremely poor areas and countries does not surprise me. An infant formula company produced a formula which was missing an important nutrient. Without this nutrient infants who consumed it could die or become retarded. It was recalled off of every shelf in this country, however, the company sent it over seas to poorer areas and sold it there. They did this knowing their product would lead to the death or retardation of infants. A company capable of this outrage is capable of anything. As far as I am concerned our corporations should have to follow the same laws in other countries as they would here. (more)

Both Bush and Obama, and any other politician who was picked to be President are alike because they are puppets of those truly in control and that is the very rich and powerful. This man was picked in advance and promoted to be President. McCain wasn't even upset he lost the election. He knew he would lose from the beginning. Our government has been hijacked by the rich and powerful who want to ensure they keep their positions and keep as few new members from joining them. (more)
  • +3 raves I am going to go out on a limb here. I will probably regret it because what I say on these boards... I am going to go out on a limb here. I will probably regret it because what I say on these boards stays forever. However, I sincerely believe that we have not been given the real truth behind 9/11. I also sincerely doubt we will, at least not until the 100 years expire which allows certain government documents and actions to remain masked. I can't remember the law exactly but know there is a period of time that certain issues of "national security" can remain shrouded in mystery and remain unanswered for a long period of time.

There is little doubt in my mind or the minds of many people I know that 9/11 is a cover up of some sort. I remember that directly after this disaster occurred Bin Laden denied responsibility. This man always claims the acts he commits, is proud of the destruction and death he inflicts. Yet, he denied this strenuously.

I watched the videos and saw charges exploding throughout the building on many different levels. I saw and heard things which have never been explained. I believe that people are too scared to admit that they too do not believe the official story. Look what happened to Rosie O'Donal when she said this very same thing on The View. She was fired and outcast for a while from media. I don't much care for Rosie, as I find her far to abrasive for my taste, but she spoke her mind in a country which espouses freedom of speech and lost her job over it.

All I know for sure is that something other than the story we were fed occurred on 9/11. Also, I don't know much about technology while in a plane high in the air, but I heard that it is impossible anyone could have made cell phone calls while that high up. I don't know if that is true. I also was told that it is virtually impossible for a plane to basically disintegrate upon crashing leaving nothing but a hole in the ground.

I don't know what happened but I am not going to blindly believe the official story when certain serious flaws to that story exist. Look how Ventura was mocked while he was speaking. I find that totally disrespectful. What was the purpose behind bring him on the show? To discredit him, make him look the fool, because it is important that anyone who can command an audience not be allowed to retain credibility after speaking out against the official story. I hate it that for the first time in our nations history people are afraid to speak about serious issues. Ventura is right that a great deal changed in this country after 9/11 and none of it has been to the positive. Very scary and frightening and I worry I made the wrong decision by speaking of this in this forum.

The fact it didn't have the affect on a wider range of systems is marked up to the news reports warning people of its existence and risks so the Internet community was forearmed and therefore took appropriate steps for security. Just because you or people you know were not affected does not a hoax make. Systems were infected, just not very many, thank goodness! (more)

I greatly admire Suze Orman as she is an example of an independent and intelligent woman who made something of herself. She was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth and waited tables to work her way through higher education. My husband and I watch her show nearly weekly and have learned a great deal about financial options and legal issues.

I am most interested in her free "book", though long article would describe it more accurately. Suze Orman has plenty to share with men as well as women. I am not really a fan of Oprah these days and so didn't watch the episode which featured Suze. Thanks for letting us know this download is available.

I am a 46 year old white female and remember when I was 8 years old a group of cowards burned a large wooden cross up on a hill above our small N CA town. They did this to send a message to the half dozen black families who had moved into our area in the few years prior to this event. I still remember the smell of smoke and burnt wood and how quickly those families left the area. I couldn't understand the hate then and I can't understand hate today. Why is it impossible for people to look within each of us and judge us for our internal characteristics rather than for superficial exterior appearance? While we are examining the long distance our country has come in equality between race, lets not forget the equality between the sexes. Women were down trodden for centuries and the property of first their fathers, then their husbands, and if widowed back to a father or even a brother, anyone other than allow a female her own say in her own life and the ability to own her own possessions, enter into contracts, be free of physical abuse, keep her own earnings, etc. Women still earn 76 cents to a man's dollar. So, lets look at the entire issue of equality in our land. I am proud we have come as far as we have, but every single one of us must look into his or her own heart and cast out hate based on superficiality. In all areas and avenues, including the hate spawned between political differences. (more)

I realize 70 years may seem a long time to live for many of our younger SH members, but he didn't even reach the average lifespan for a male. 70 is 16 years younger than my father who is still alive and well today, so Hubbard did die at a young age. We will still have his music to comfort us for years to come. This is one reason I am glad I live in current technologically advanced times; we can store the music of our favorite artists and enjoy for years and introduce our children, grandchildren, etc to fantastic music.

Jazz is a type of music which has no racial, age, sex, or other boundaries. It transcends boundaries and provides tremendous pleasure for those who enjoy it. I am sorry to hear of Hubbard's passing but encourage any who are not familiar with his music to listen to it as I am sure anyone would enjoy such fine sounds. I once thought I didn't like jazz music until I went with my sister and father to a jazz concert at our local university. I was pleasantly surprised to learn I hadn't a clue what jazz really was about, nor all of the myriad permutations. I learned I don't care for the brass much, but the rest is simply wonderful. I now go to sleep each night with my radio tuned to a soft jazz station.

Abuse victims are manipulated by their abusers in any way which can provide the control needed to keep them silent and continue abusing them as long as possible. Religion can be a tool for abusers, but it is only one tool.

Society is at fault for the "suffering in silence" of molestation victims. Girls are taught to be "good girls", and sex is a dirty thing. Our society makes girls and even grown women feel they are somehow at fault for their own abuse. If they had only done this or not done that they would not have been hurt. We still have areas in this world where rape and molestation victims are held responsible and murdered by their own families in 'honor killings". Not long ago a thirteen year old child who was gang raped was buried up to her neck in the sand and then stoned to death. Many victims put themselves in prison for protection using the law against adultery or purity. Many husbands put wives and the children of those wives into prison instead of killing her, then divorce her and remarry.

Over all society, even here in the "enlightened" states make girls and women feel responsible for their victimization. This bares out in court rooms across the country where the victim is put on trial. There are many reasons why a girl/woman stays silent, fear of the abuser, fear of family rejection and disbelief, protection of the abuser by the family, fear of society judging them at fault, and feeling dirty and responsible. Religion is just one aspect of a girls life which can and is twisted to use against her, so many more exist and abusers are talented at such ugly twisting of reality and manipulation. Until society arrives at a point where victims are not judged somehow responsible they will continue to stay silent except for the very brave. Even memories are used against girls and women.
