    I read this formula for figuring out who is too young and too old for you.

    Take your age. Divide by 2. Add 7.
    Anyone younger than that is creepy for you to date.

    Take your age. Double it. Subtract 14.
    Anyone older than that is creepy for you to date.

  • What Would You Do?

    +3 raves I'm in a similar situation. (I'm not the greatest molder and teacher of teenagers, but I... I'm in a similar situation. (I'm not the greatest molder and teacher of teenagers, but I strongly believe I'm very good at it.) And it has more to do with my condition making it impossible to do my job.

    With severe depression, the energy required to channel all the attention, and constant evaluation, and social interaction, and input into working with students is a severe drain on my limited resources. Working with students energizes me. But in the bitter irony of depression that raised emotional level also wears me down.

    I am trying to find ways to work with students that doesn't tax me to the extent that I am unable to keep up the high level of performance I expect from myself. I had to quit my full-time teaching job, I will soon have to quit the part-time advising/tutoring job I am now doing. When the emotional energy runs out, the dark spiral of depression takes me into a deep, dark pit.

    I don't know what is possible for me. I want to continue to help students. I know I can help them open opportunities they would not otherwise have, opportunities they weren't aware they were capable of, opportunities they didn't know existed. I haven't yet found the situation in which it is possible for me to consistently do so. So I guess put me down for keep doing what you love, despite the pain.     (more)
