I think SH is a great outlet for political junkies like myself. I'm a crazy, liberated type, married to a Vietnam vet who hates politics. I love adventure and have foregone regular life at times to go chasing one. I have a great son - 16, adore him. I'm a builder and supporter. I've built two homes and a boat - sailed to FL from CA, lost the boat in hurricane Ivan. I cheer all my friends on and share their pain and joy. I love music, dancing, tennis, community service, cause organizing, reading, researching and trying to change things. I can't stand to leave it alone!

I think there is too much unnecessary bureaucracy with everybody's niece on the payroll, receiving benefits and pensions denied other workers. Why should public "servants," who cause us so much frustration with fees and fines and paperwork (work they create to stay employed), get medical and dental care the taxpayers can't afford? (more)

He was a horrible human being - true friend to the rich, to business and Christian soldiers - no friend to the middle class, working class or poor. HOWEVER, Clinton (1999) and his Republican congress embraced some of those same teachings with NAFTA and deregulation of the financial district. It was Texas Republican Phil Graham who repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, the legislation that Roosevelt put in place after the crash to keep Wall Street under control. Glass-Steagall maintained a separation between commercial banking and the securities industries. Glass-Steagall was repealed by Republican majorities on party lines, passing both the house and senate. Clinton signed it! (more)

According to Wendall Potter, the ex Cigna chief spokesman, if you make a claim, they will go back over your application looking for any reason to not pay. If small business makes an expensive claim, they will raise their rates. They cannot loose - you loose. They can change your coverage and anything about it they want to any time they choose. How many people do you know who were told insurance wouldn't pay for a procedure the doctor ordered, or wouldn't pay for all of it? My neighbor had a stroke waiting for approval. One man was on the table ready for a bone marrow transplant when word was delivered to his wife that CIGNA wouldn't pay. A 16 year-old girl died because they wouldn't grant her doctors' request for a transplant. And just why are American costs so high? Do you decide you're worth $200 an hour? Where's the market determining the costs. When 47 million can't afford to pay, I'd say the product is overpriced, wouldn't you? When a majority of the bankruptcies in America are MEDICAL and most of those people HAD INSURANCE, I'd say the product is inadequate, wouldn't you? Insurance companies are colluding right now at the white house - there are few of them, and they are united against cost effectiveness, against universal care. The only thing they are for is profit.
    Most doctors, nurses and the general public want universal coverage without insurance in the middle.     (more)
