About Me

I will always remain a student of philosophy -- with a special interest in applied ethics, epistemology, and metaphysics -- but I am a practicing professional engineer in environmental engineering, specifically in water resource engineering. I've made my career in research, and my current work deals with water effluent quality in oil refining processes.

Originally from Lago di Como, Lombardia, I currently live and work in Fairfax, VA.

I think I would describe myself as a highly educated woman -- with degrees in philosophy (epistemology), civil engineering, environmental sciences -- and I do attribute my uniqueness of opinions to my diverse education. I do not fit neatly into any singular mold in either politics or religion, so please, do not presume to know my opinion based on assumptions.

Overall, I am soft-spoken and sensitive, intelligent and open-minded. If you would like to know more about me, start a conversation with me. :)

"Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence." -- Dorothy Thompson

Palin's fifteen minutes of fame are over. She needs to sit down and leave commentary to someone who understands politics.

Staff abusing power is what I blame for the decline. I wouldn't put up with it if it weren't for a few good people here. When they leave (or are deactivated), I'll leave.

Religious belief does not restrict an individual from voting one way or the other. There are a number of issues, both pertinent to faith and irrelevant to, that people take into consideration when voting.

It is a difficult choice, and I for one would choose to end my baby's suffering, however, I can see how letting go would be extremely difficult.

I'm also irritated whenever someone purposefully spells a political opponent's name wrong, whether we're talking about the right wing nut job calling Obama "Obummer" or a member of the far left babbling about "McSame" -- any purposeful misspelling, in my opinion, only devalues the poster's stance and makes them look less intelligent.

I think that on both sides, those who misspell to be "clever" are the minority -- I just think that SodaHead is full of the farthest right malcontents.

You want people to take the time to listen about what you have to say on your faith? Show some respect and humility first, then perhaps some might be willing to strike up a conversation with you on what you believe.

It is available in almost every European nation, I believe, and is worthwhile. My grandfather came over to stay with my mother shortly after my sister was killed. He is Italian, but the legal issues concerning temporary travel insurance should be similar.

Also, it is important to note that insurance is not necessary for healthcare -- there are emergency clinics for minor health issues (infection, cold, sprains, etc) and hospitals will not EVER turn anyone away in an emergency (accident, heart attack, severe break, etc).
