Well, if the Republican Party didn't believe he was a natural born American Citizen I'm pretty sure they would have brought it up by now. It would disqualify Obama and would be an automatic win for McCain.
But if you're talking about the idiots here on SH who buy into that tripe, they'll never admit it. Backing that type of lunacy is a whole lot easier than actually studying up on what each of the candidates have done, and their plans for our country. (more) -

I moved to an area, where, honest, they thought it was a fringe religion. Finding meatless meals when eating out was very, very tough. It seemed like I'd order what SOUNDED meatless and it would come with bacon bits on it or some crazy thing. I worked full time so cooking every night was tough. I finally caved in. I still don't eat a lot of meat, but I just can't seem to get back to it full fledged. (more)

+3 raves I find it amazing that the more accessible we are, the further apart we seem to be. It seems that... I find it amazing that the more accessible we are, the further apart we seem to be. It seems that as we have more ways to communicate the more open we'd be, but people seem to be more isolated. I see people walking around and, worse, driving around with cell phones to their ears not noticing anything around them. At work people race to their breaks, flipping out their phones as they go, and not communicating with the people actually around them. Not long ago a woman at work said she wanted to go to lunch with me. I went, but she spent the whole time either making or taking calls. We didn't say more than a few sentences to each other. She keeps asking, but I won't go with her again. No one was on the way to the emergency room, no houses were on fire......I can't decide whether to tell her why I won't go to lunch with her anymore or not. I guess I should. She was definitely rude to me. My comments couldn't possibly be considered more rude than her actions. (more)

I saw a poll today that made no sense at all, mispellings, incoherent - okay, I saw many...... A "stupid" downrave would have been perfect! It would even be great if it could only be used on the polls, not on individual replies. Maybe the quality of polls would get better. It would be pretty awesome to see just how many stupid downraves each Jonas Bros poll could rack up. (more) -

I think it's a typical phase on the road to maturity. We've all gone through it. In the sixties everyone showed their "individuality" by dressing like gypsies. The 80's had that awful overprocessed, oversprayed, big hair, shoulder pads, and pants that cinched at the ankles. How unique we all were. I just keep wondering how today's women are going to explain the tongue stud to their grandchildren. "Well see, it was good for fel........" (more) -

Although that seems to be pretty true of many conservatives. They say how everyone MUST live and then live in a totally different manner in their own lives. (more) -

Today:
-Palin sought pork-barrel projects for her city and state, contrary to her reformist image.
-Her husband once belonged to a fringe political group in Alaska, with some members supporting secession from the United States.
-A private attorney is authorized to spend $95,000 to defend her against accusations of abuse of power.
-She has acknowledged smoking marijuana in the past.
-It was reported that she accepted at least $4,500 in campaign contributions in the same fundraising scheme at the center of a public corruption scandal that led to the indictment of Sen. Ted Stevens.
If she didn't have her butt so clinched about what everyone else does the marijuana smoking would be inconsequential.
All this is still in the investigation phase, but it seems that the Republicans didn't vett her all that well, or someone did and blew it.
There's a part of me that finds it sad. I think McCain is an honorable man and a hero, and I hate to see this type of thing happen to him. On the other hand I would never want him running the country. (more) -

No. These days with all dollars and especially the advertising dollar spread so thin they had to go with what most Americans would watch. Unfortunately, many Americans don't vote, or they don't try to learn as much as they can about the candidates or the issues. They'd rather watch people falling in mud, or worse, vote for something so very important like who the best celebrity dancer is. It's sad that there are many, many people out there who can tell you the past 5 winners of American Idol, but can't tell you the names of the past 5 Presidents, or the names of their state and federal representatives, or the governor of their states.
Thank goodness for PBS. Remember, if the FCC and the Republicans had their way PBS would be gone and only commercial TV would exist. All news would be slanted in what ever way would make the networks and their owners the most money. (more) -
