About Me
I'm not good at writing these sorts of things. Personally, I think I'm pretty boring. I was born and raised in the deep South (Mississippi and Louisiana). I was raised as a Missionary Baptist, but have since read too many things like, oh, the Bible, the Quran, Tao te Ching, Bagavad Gita, and so forth to truly lay claim to their, what most would consider, ultra-fundamentalist views. I've earned a B.S. degree in Physics and am currently working on a M.S. in Astronomy, so I'm quite literally a starry-eyed dreamer with delusions of helping to design planetary missions or permanent settlement bases on the moon or the like. So again, rather boring unless you're a science, sf/fantasy, or other sort of geek.
No one in particular? I mean there are people that I wouldn't mind meeting, but the idea of having a "hero" is foreign to me. Why idolize someone who puts on pants every morning as I do and who bleeds just as red? What makes the unsubstantiated thoughts of someone like Socrates or Plato better than mine? Being famous somehow lends more weight or credence to your views? I think not. Being famous and known may make you an interesting person to meet and chat with, but to follow you around or avidly seek such a meeting? Nah.
SF&F, Astronomy, Physics, Science, Fishing, Camping, Alternative Energy, Planetary Astronomy, Stellar Evolution, Planetary Formation, Mythology, Spectroscopy, States Rights, Civil Rights, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Locke, Benjamin Franklin, and likely quite a few more that aren't coming to mind as I sit and type.
Metallica, Aaron Tippin, Bach, Ozzy, Enya, America, Disturbed, Godsmack, Eagles, Smashing Pumpkins, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Heart, Tom Petty WITH the Heartbreakers, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Lacuna Coil....If it's not rap, dixie-land or cool jazz, or screaming emo, I'll give it a listen.
Mythbusters, Dr. Who, Star Trek (ToS or TNG only), MASH, Battlestar Galactica (both series, but forget about that nastiness of 1980), Most History Channel programs and Science Channel program
Stargate, V for Vendetta (the government SHOULD fear its people), Star Wars, Chronicles of Riddick, Quiggley Down Under, League of Their Own, The Matrix, Men in Black, Independence Day, Miracle on 34th Street, Major Payne, Space Cowboys, Astronaut Farmer, Ice Age, Ice Age 2: the Meltdown
Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Foundation Trilogy, The Gods Themselves, Godstalk, Dark of the Moon, Seeker's Mask, In Conquest Born, Dune, Tao te Ching, In Search of Schroedinger's Cat, Fingerprints of the Gods, Iron Dragon's Daughter, The Swordswoman, Dilvish the Damned, The Amber Chronicles, Mechanics, 2nd ed. by Fowles, The Meaning of Relativity, Albert Einstein, and did I mention Dune?

+6 raves It does equal ten actually, but you have to remember that what you're doing is the sum of a s... It does equal ten actually, but you have to remember that what you're doing is the sum of a series expansion. I'll try to write it out, but I don't know how well it's going to work without series notations and such.
3.333333...=3+(3/10)+(3/100)+...
Thus it is the sum of an infinite geometric series. We can calculate that sum rather easily by the formula:
S=a/(1-r), where in this case a=3 and r=1/10. There fore
S=3/(1-(1/10))=3/(9/10)=30/9=...
So not surprisingly 3.33333...=10/3, and if we multiply by 3 we get 10.
The problem is that if you leave it in decimal form, you're truncating, cutting off, the series, at some point. The more terms, or the farther along you make that truncation, that you use, the closer you'll get to 10 in this operation, but you still won't quite get 10 because you haven't summed over the entire series.
Does your head hurt yet? Mine sure does. I hate this series expansion crap. :( (more) -

Thanks for adding me!
LoXx
Meaning behind LoXx? Well it's personal but there's nothing wrong with that. An ex of mine who remains a good friend to this day gave me the nickname while we were dating a couple years ago. I had really light blond hair while he and all (and I mean ALL) of his friends had dark brown or dyed black hair, being goths. I stood out a lot so I developed the nickname Locks for Goldilocks. Haha I changed it to LoXx.
Thanks for asking. It makes me smile to think about how funny that was.
