Currently caring for my sister who has been stricken with Gillian Barre. She has been paralyzed from the neck down for about 15 months. She has been on a Respirator via a Trach all this time. We, brought her home last Jan, because she wanted to be home while waiting for her nerves to regenerate the insulation. We trained for the operation and care of the Respirator and the Trach. But she contracted a Cancerous mass in her neck about 4 months ago, and it has severed all the nerves from the neck down, she feels nothing, she has absolutely no control of any muscles in her body except her heart, eyes & Lids, and her lips. She can’t talk. The Cancer is doubling in size every week, and is moving to her brain stem. We don’t think she will last more than a few weeks. We have not told her about her condition. She wants to live, she wants us to help her get better. We try to make her as comfortable and secure as we can.
It keeps my brother in law and me busy 24/7. Good thing I took early retirement 2 months before she got sick!

You are a wonderful brother and her husband has to be an awesome man to stand with her and by her side. She is very fortunate to be able to experience genuine love. My heart goes out to you, your family, sister and brother in law. May God bless each of you during these extremely hard times. Loss of your loved ones is hard. I remember my dad, when he was dying of cancer. The last time I saw him a week before he died, I knew then it would be the last time I would see him alive. It was the hardest drive back from Mobile, AL to Dallas for me.
