About Me
My profile says NY, but that's Upstate NY, which is more like Indiana than it is like Manhattan - though I'll readily admit I've spent ample time in Manhattan. I went to a variety of colleges in my six year career as a college student. I was an RA enlistee during Vietnam, but never left the Eastern Time Zone, and finished my military career as a 2nd Lieutenant (a distinction akin to bowling a 291, but that's a tale too long for here). I went to Law School, got out in the standard 3 years, and have practiced essentially as an attorney since then (albeit now a semi-retired one). Somewhat belatedly I became the father of three wonderful children, the youngest of whom started college in August of 2012, who bring more texture, love, and meaning to my life than I would have dreamed possible, a rather complete surprise to me, given that I fully enjoyed my life prior to their arrival. I'm developing my own share of health problems, my dentist is likely to set aside a private chair for me in his office and I had a triple bypass in January of 2011, but Life is Good. I might note, given the frequent references to religion here on SH, that I am about as spiritually lazy a person as you'll encounter, being a lapsed Unitarian-Universalist, epitomizing the definition of "agnostic - the lazy man's atheist". That said, I do resent the marginalization so many non-religious people, particularly from the left, try to impose on those who do believe, particularly Christians.
I originally didn't describe my political leanings here, but it was suggested that certain postings I made were misleading, so I elected to add this supplement. I've always been resistant to change - I'll abide it, even endorse it, but you have to show me it's necessary - and my politics reflect that predilection. That translated easily into conservative politics. Since both my parents were Republican, albeit of a somewhat liberal stripe, my dawning political consciousness presented no challenge at enrollment time. I had my involvements with liberal causes in college, but the "big tent" nature of the NYS Republicans at the time meant that wasn't any type of registration issue. I ended up firmly in the Republican camp (although I ocasionally enroll as a Democrat to support the strongly conservative wing of the local Democrats), even the more conservative camp it is today, primarily because as an attorney I was - and continue to be - appalled at what the Warren Court did to the Constitution. I had no problem interpreting the 14th Amendment to bar segregation in the South, but the extensions not related to giving political rights to blacks were, IMHO, wholly juristically unwarranted, an ego trip by the then majority of the Court, and the reason I'll likely die classified as a conservative Republican. The Constitution and the 14th Amendment were passed by a society whose franchised voters wanted a strong central government to defend the country and run the economy, but which left other things alone. The Civil War Amendments were enacted to make sure that blacks were included in State government activities along with everyone else. All else is artifice - currently Liberal artifice.

My kids; my family; my friends; keeping our country a good place to live - where reasonably just results can be obtained under an equitably applied Rule of Law; sports - more participatory than pro (albeit by this time in my life I'm generally an observer even in the participatory ones), but they all have their place.

The thanks should come from me, I'm mostly a SH observer, you're a very valuable and uplifting contributor. So, thanks. (And thanks for the thanks, anyway, it was unneeded and unearned - but a pleasant surprise.)

Gee, the only place I know where I said that is in my SH Profile, where I clearly identified myself in the prior sentence as an "agnostic". Where did you find the reference?

A lapsed Unitarian-Universalist! Wow that IS lazy. LOL-I attended UU services for awhile but abandoned them. I'm just not a group person.

Separate and apart from that inquiry, are you seriously maintaining that there is virtually no activity on SH that seeks to make Christians and Christian beliefs unimportant or powerless in SH discussions? Your own activity alone belies such a belief.
