About Me
My username, IndyLinda, stands for Independent Linda, 'cause I'm my own person in all ways. I detest political correctness and have no time for the people who practice it. Facts are facts, and all the spin in the world will not change the facts. Truth is truth, and the lies permeating our culture today will fall of their own weight. My BS detector works just fine and I can smell propaganda and spin a mile off. Try that stuff on my blogs or polls and I'll block you. Use your own platform; I'm not providing one.
Rock-hounding, quilting (by hand), gardening, deep discussion of high ideas and ideals with open-minded people.
Astronomy to zoology and everything in between.
Classic rock, classical -- everything but rap and hip-hop
Fried Green Tomatoes, Driving Miss Daisy, Terms of Endearment, Beaches Series: Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Trek.
I'm on Shelfari.com -- Way too many to list.

"I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." -Thomas Jefferson, September 23, 1800, letter to Benjamin Rush
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that." -Abraham Lincoln, August 22, 1862, letter to Horace Greeley
"In giving advice, seek to help, not please, your friend."--Solon 640-560 B.C.

Dachau, 1944: "In Germany, they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists but I didn't speak up because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time nobody was left to speak up." -- Martin Niemoeller
The significant problems we face can never be solved at the level of thinking that created them. --Albert Einstein
What a curious phenomenon it is that you can get men to die for the liberty of the world who will not make the little sacrifice that is needed to free themselves from their own individual bondage. --Bruce Barton (1886-1967)
A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. --Basil (329-379 A.D.)
If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. --Will Rogers
In the depth of my soul there is a wordless song. -- Kahlil Gibran
Those who are awake live in a state of constant amazement. -- Buddha
General Norman Schwartzkopf was asked whether there was any room for forgiveness toward the people who have harbored and abetted the terrorists who perpetrated the 11 Sept attacks on America. His answer was classic: Schwartzkopf said, "I believe that forgiving them is God's function. Our job is simply to arrange the meeting."
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace-makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." --Hermann Goering at the Nuremberg Trials
"Know a tyrant, for he will deprive you of information".-Voltaire

For more than 30 years, I have packed what I will need and we go to my father-in-law's house, where my husband and I prepare the feast. My Mom is 92 and my husband's Dad will be 101 in January! We buy a fresh Amish turkey -- the whole menu is very traditional and never varies -- Dad would not like that. (more)

The progressive element (read that "Socialist") that has hijacked the Democratic Party is well aware of the facts in this story. Republicans, Libertarians and fiscal conservatives should press forward now, firmly and relentlessly to Election Day 2010 and beyond. A word of caution: Expect the leftist viciousness and stridency to increase almost infinitely. They know their days are numbered. The push will be on to enfranchise the illegal alien "voter army" that they will use to replace the utterly corrupt Acorn and its spawn organizations. The smoke and mirrors act will go frenetic. Crises will be manufactured and the foot-licker media will perform like trained seals. Expect Chris Matthews' legs to tingle right off his body. (more)

Frankly, Marie, I have long believed that the female of our species is far more dangerous than history, sociology or psychology paints her.
