  • Mark I see major media for what it is, corporate owned, corporate financed and based entirely upon corporate profits and pleasing their stockholders and advertisers. This is particularly true concerning major broadcast media. From them most of today's news doesn't come from reporters in the field as much as it does from hired "experts," who are for the most part political pundits and retired generals. Another thing is most major news broadcasters are owned by defense contractors or those who own stock with defense contractors. What they do I wouldn't necessary call lying but rather that they present stories that are favorable to corporations as they under report or fail to report on things that are more detrimental to the general public, especially if these notions show corporations and/or defense contractors in any negative light. That is why I prefer independent media.

I would further add and precisely on these grounds, that those who say MSNBC or CNN are liberal media, or that major media in general is liberal media, they are kidding themselves, unless of course they honestly believe that defense contract corporations are liberally owned entities.

  • Michael: Do you really believe what any mainstreet news media writes or reports on these days? Afterall, regardless of political side honest reporting is no longer a value. It is all about lieing and trying to improve ones position in the eyes of most uneducated and uninformed voters.

  • Conspiracy theories aside we do know this current administration is responsible for most of our woes. A good start in putting us on the right track is to put out and keep out the neocon right beginning with the election of Barrack Obama. Then to support progressive candidates in the house and senate. God will not only bless us for this effort, he will thank us.

It's what we're putting in the vegetables, the pesticides, genetics etc. It's also the mercury in the drinking water that we should really be worrying about. As for tobacco, well it causes cancer, but I believe at this point it is being scapegoated because so does practically every thing else that surrounds us. Houston for example has the highest cancer rate in the country and it ain't because of tobacco or vegetables but rather the oil and chemical refineries and the pesticide corporations that are behind most of that. That nuclear testing in the 50's and 60's didn't do us any good either. (more)
