Despite what the well funded ad companies want you to believe, no matter what the brainwashed neocons will tell you, single payer health care is the best, most affordable and most humane system we can employ.

It has worked very well in many places, including our northern neighbor, and will here too.

It is with much happiness and relief to know that you are not teaching MY children, but I have to admit that I am very much in distress that you are teaching ANYONE’S children, considering that if your grasp of history is any indication of the rest of your education you might be better suited to be sitting in one of the fourth grade desks instead of leading the class.

Whether you resent President Obama saying it or not, the truth is that we, as a nation – and especially our leadership team for the past eight years – have been arrogant, and Mr. Bush’s stance of ‘you’re either with me or against me’ demonstrated clearly that he nor anyone in his cabinet cared about their status in the world. Why are you taking President Obama to task for merely acknowledging what the rest of the world was already painfully aware?

Sure, we helped out the Europeans (and ourselves) through our involvement in WWI and WWII, but afterward also turned their homeland into armed camps for fifty-plus years even usurping their sovereignty by placing nuclear missiles on their soil. Then, when they advised caution to us before our failed excursion to find WMDs in Iraq we turned our backs, thumbed our noses at them only to be proven being the ones who ultimately were in the wrong.

The United States of America has never been a Christian nation. You ask the President if he has ever read the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, but I ask the same question of you. Nowhere in either document are the words ‘God’ or ‘Jesus’ mentioned. Only in one spot in the Declaration of Independence did Jefferson mention ‘Creator’, but if you know anything about Thomas Jefferson, including the fact that he rewrote the Bible and removed any mention of Jesus deity, then you would realize that when Jefferson wrote the word he certainly didn’t mean the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. If you had any clue of which you speak you would also realize that the term ‘Allah’ is the Arabic word FOR the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Now, if there is still any question in your mind about the status of the United States as a Christian nation, please review the Treaty of Tripoli, ratified unanimously in 1797 and signed by President John Adams. This document – written, voted on and signed into law BY MANY OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS – states, plainly, in Article 11 that The United States was NOT founded as a Christian nation.

Where you might have a point about bowing to a foreign sovereign you might want to know that it is not without precedence, either. When first meeting the Queen of England, President Reagan bowed and First Lady Nancy curtsied.

Oh, and not every President visits National Cemeteries every time they visit Europe, too. In May 1985 when Ronald Reagan visited Europe, he didn’t stop by a National Cemetery, but he DID have time to lay a wreath at the grave of SS storm troopers in Bitburg. Isn’t that giving the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves? Where is your outrage about that???

You then go on to say that the real culprits in this economic meltdown are not the bankers who loaned money to people who couldn’t pay it back, or the bankers who issued credit cards under one set of rules and then change the rules as they go along, or those in Congress who pushed through legislation which kept financial institutions from getting too large and pervasive and which had kept the US economy from depression for seventy-plus years – no, you want to blame Democratic members of Congress who were the minority at the time and who (basically) had no influence on legislation other than expressing opinions. Where is your blame towards Phil Gramm who gutted the regulations or George W. Bush who pushed the idea of an ‘ownership society’? I will tell you…nowhere to be found, because they are Republicans, and you are programmed not to blame Republicans for anything.

Continuing on, you state that you’re an elementary school teacher and that you took a 5% pay cut in order to save jobs. Well, honey, if you had not supported all of those property tax capping bills, the darlings of the GOP during the 1990s, you might not have to take the cut or lose teachers. Why are you upset that others get a pay raise when you take a pay cut? Don’t you realize that this has been happening to almost all Americans – except the most wealthy – for at least the last 30 years? Why isn’t it so important that we keep taxes low when it is YOUR paycheck being affected?

The truth, Ms Lyday, is that President Obama doesn’t treat you as brain-dead as your letter makes you appear. He is doing his best to turn this nation around to a country in which rational people can be proud and back to one which educated people recognize. I am very sorry that he offends you, but I can assure you that he offends you much less than you and your complete lack of knowledge about this great country offends me.

If you are going to continue to write such moronic letters in the future, please keep the good name of your school out of it. I am sure that there are people there who are good Americans who don’t want to be painted with the same ‘idiot brush’ you bring on yourself.

    Sincerely,

    justfred

Also, in todays society money is power and vice versa. With our corporations as large and well funded as they are, only a large, strong central government is powerful enough to stop them from binding us in economic slavery.

    1) Even though people get more in their paychecks, a 23% increase in the price of goods and services would stop the economy in it's tracks. The free market runs on the concept that a 'widget' brings at point of sale what it is worth in the mind of the person purchasing it and has nothing to do with tax. That is why no tax decrease has ever led to lower prices.

    2) It is a regressive tax which will impact those on the bottom of the economic spectrum the most. For the past 50 years the wealthy have seen their taxes reduced while the rest of us have either seen increases in our taxes, increase in user fees for government services or reduction of those services which wind up costing us more money in the long run.

    3) The bureaucracy necessary to issue out the 'prebates' each month would make the IRS look like a kid's birthday party. It will be bigger and more invasive government - what most of the proponents of the 'Fair Tax' want.

It isn't good for the taxpayers, it isn't good for the economy, and it certainly isn't fair.
