I have a few friends that are gay, but no really close friends to help me understand the struggles they face, so I don't really understand exactly what their fight is about. I can clearly see that this is not the same as racial discrimination.

People are discriminated against constantly for their personal preferences. Their fashion sense, their musical tastes, their marriage status, their choice to have kids and how many and a zillion other things. I have to hide a ton of things from my employer and church and other business and social organizations. There will always be discrimination against those that are no the same. I understand that this issue is different because people don't necessarily choose to be gay.

What are the struggles of LGBT people? (I really do need an answer to this question.) The right to marry? I can't agree that marriage is anything other than the union of a man and a woman. If you join a woman and a woman, or a man and a man, then it should be called something different because it IS different. However, I think that a person should be able to visit their significant other when they are in the hospital and get information related to their condition. I think that if you are willing to make a legal committment to a person similiar to a marriage committment you should be afforded the legal advantages that go with this kind of relationship (ie: insurance coverage, inheritances, tax filings???). Although, I will admit I am not 100% convinced that this is the right thing to do, but it seems to be only fair, (i think).

I mean, poor, sexually active, women, probably don't have the best self-esteem, seems like they could be easily railroaded into this. Not a good idea. Why is it always about money, don't we ever think about the value of a person, you know, human life itself? (more)

I think SH is a very good representation of the rest of American society. People are passionate about their beliefs, and that is a good thing. The problem is, when we become so defensive we assume that we are being attacked even when the person we are discussing with agrees with us. We need to understand the importance of:

    1. respect of other people, including their views/beliefs (that doesn't mean you have to agree, but you can let them say what they have to say and let it lie on its own merits.)

    2. remember to be polite and tactful, you can still get your point across without being a jerk.

    3. listen, really listen and attempt to understand the other person

    4. discourage personal attacks, how are you gonna convince anyone by calling them names?

How is this mother of 5 kids, (one less than a year old with down's sydrome) going to have time to be VP?

The name is kinda self abusing, don't you think? I guess that goes along with super angry, emotional, illogical behavior.

    Mark 3:25
25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
