" We have forgotten the gracious hand which has preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving Grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us". - Abraham Lincoln
I BELIEVE
I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.
I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.
I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living.
I believe that thrift is essential to well ordered living and that economy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whether in government, business or personal affairs.
I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring social order.
I believe in the sacredness of a promise, that a man's word should be as good as his bond; that character -- not wealth or power or position -- is of supreme worth.
I believe that the rendering of useful service is the common duty of mankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the dross of selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free.
I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual's highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will.
I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph over might.
-- John D. Rockefeller, Junior: July 8,1941
"I think, myself, that we have more machinery of government than
is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the
industrious. I believe it might be much simplified to the relief
of those who maintain it." --Thomas Jefferson to William Ludlow,
1824.
"What more is necessary to make us a happy and a prosperous
people? Still one thing more, fellow citizens--a wise and frugal
Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another,
shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of
industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of
labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good
government, and this is necessary to close the circle of our
felicities." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural, 1801.
"The whole art of government consists in the art of being honest"
--Thomas Jefferson: Rights of British America, 1774.

Uhhhh, WHO has ammended the constitution recently that changed Presidential term limits from 4 years to 8 years? The last time I looked it was 4. Jumping the gun here a bit since he would HAVE to be RE ELECTED to serve a total of 8 years. I seriously hope people are not that stupid to have another go round on this trainwreck. (more) -

I am in no way saying I agree with the bonus packages, but I do have to question the legality of the recent actions by Congress. I don't see how this is legal. Congress passed a bill legalizing these bonus packages via the stimulus package. Now they are making it illegal which is in direct conflict with the Constitution. Article I section 9; clause 3, states: that Congress shall pass no "ex post faco law' (after the fact) or retroactive law, which is a law that retroactively changes the legal consequences of acts committed or the legal status of facts and relationships that existed prior to the enactment of the law. In reference to criminal law, it may criminalize actions that were legal when committed. Also it states Congress shall not pass a bill of attainder; A bill of attainder (also known as an act or writ of attainder) is an act of legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without benefit of a trial.
Now they are trying to save their asses, meanwhile throwing the Contitution of the United States out the window. These bonuses should not have been in the bill to begin with. Now we could be possibly faced with MANY lawsuits causing us taxpayers even MORE money. (more)
