If you pay taxes, if you raise your children, work and vote your conscience when you vote, then being required to make another pledge is an insult. You would-be patriots think it's sacrilege to dissent on such things, but uniformity in accordance with government or even societal mandate is not a sign of patriotism at all, not in this country. You collectivists need to go to hell. (more) -

Dan Kildee is not the first, nor will he be the last, human capitalist, government interventionist, authoritarian Obama will draw out of the woodworks. Having a president and an administration so willing to overtake the private sector and use government interventions to control the lives of individuals will and is emboldening individuals who otherwise would have stayed in bed. Individuals will similar mindsets. (more)

I believe in personal choices, individual liberties, States' rights, etc. The federal government, at least, has no business in moral affairs or individual choices that do not harm others outside of an individual. Abortion arguably harms someone, yet the value of the unborn is not the same across all people, and if an individual fails to correctly and morally judge the value of their unborn, it is their lineage they harm, their health they risk.
Morality has been diffused in the public eye each time religious activists attempt to lay it upon the people in the form of a law, and so I disagree with abortion being decided by the State in either direction. With no societal pressures in either direction, individuals are more likely to rely on their family, friends, churches and communities for moral and other forms of support through the decision-making process, and fewer abortions will take place.
The surplus of laws per demand has done damage to the American family and the American community. Less government in every way would help us get to know our neighbors. (more) -

While it is entirely possible, and possibly likely, that our government will allow or produce a disaster at some point in the near future in order to generate adequate fear, that we might give over even more vitally protected liberties, the year 2012 is not significantly at risk, I think.
Ancient civilizations had astrological calendars pointing to 2012 as the end of an age (the Baktun Cycle, from the Mayan's "long count" calendar is an example). This is significant, because by their calendar it meant another period of over 5,000 years would end, but not the world by any means. It simply means another period of the same length will begin, according to those old, old calendars. I mean, their calendars were more accurate than ours in many ways. It's pretty amazing, but no reason, I think, to expect anything to happen in that year based solely upon the turning of the age. (more) -

It happens and will happen regardless, because there is a demand for it. Beings realistic about where our society is at morally is the first step to healing our communities. Suppressing such things as drugs, prostitution, and alcohol (though no longer) just makes the industry less safe, it doesn't banish it. Moreover, prohibition makes it more attractive to youth trying to rebel. One other effect of prohibition is a bias education on the same. When we prohibit a thing, prohibition often takes the place of being well informed on the subject. Better to have knowledge than law. (more) -

Do you think Obama can spend us out of a recession? Do you know any of the history that got us into this mess, or anything about real economics at all? It goes way back. You are short-sighted. You sound like a Nazi. Many of you do.
There are about 26 states considering sovereignty bills under the Tenth Amendment (you familiar with the Constitution?). There's a reason for this, and its that the feds are acting irresponsibly to an extreme. The only thing I have against these tea parties is that they weren't around during Bush's wild atrocities against individual liberty. Many of those fools are indeed right wingers with limited vision themselves.
HOWEVER, turning them in?....are you fucking serious? If you wanna live in a country where people can't protest and demonstrate, you too will eventually be on the receiving end of those limitations. There will come a time when it comes back to you short sighted dipshits. Be you a Dem or a Rep, individual freedom is in your best interest. You want a dictator, go the fuck to Cuba. (more) -

+2 raves For myself, I couldn't agree with our forefathers more in believing that man has certain self... For myself, I couldn't agree with our forefathers more in believing that man has certain self-evident and natural rights. Government came from a social contract designed orginially to protect those rights. Social contracts can begin anywhere on the scale of maximized liberty and inhibited freedom, but idealistically, government should only exist to preserve those essential liberties. Any function they seek to perform in excess of that is just that, excess. (more)
