About Me
I don't like writing about myself.
I'm retired and finding time to do stuff I've put off most of my life. There is just one problem: I was lots younger then and had the energy to do it all. Only everything else got in the way.
I am fanatical about healthy and sustainable nutrition. I don't eat animals. Except occasional fish for the Omega-3. Beyond that there is no need and every reason to opt out. It's 2012. We have evolved past hunting & gathering and have the opportunity at last to call ourselves truly civilized.
But it's a choice we don't have to make, unless we want to continue on this planet in our present level of comfort and affluence. The present mode is simply not sustainable. Not only has global human population been growing exponentially the past two centuries, likely to quadruple just in the course of my own lifetime, but it takes seventeen times as much land and more fossil fuel than all other uses combined to make protein from animals than from other sources. So, you've had your fun. Not that killing is fun for me anyway.
Hobbies that keep me busy include learning to play and collecting guitar(s), historic modeling research and a 1941 Taylorcraft project. Also birds, as in keeping and breeding endangered species. But complications have reduced that presently down to my one Dusky Pionus... -basically my one exotic pet.
The past year has seen a few changes not the least the four shelter dogs I adopted /fostered, one from MO and three from GA, all set to die if not taken out when they were. All four keep me busy with leashwalking and two with fence maintenance, escape artists that they are. I'm thinking of naming at least one of them, the American Black Lab, Houdini. All either of them want to do is chase birds, squirrels and the lone, permanently-evicted armadillo. Evicted because, if he can crawl through it so can they. My one foster has become a de facto permanent resident since the fosters that were supposed to take him fell through. He is a liability, as his unsocialized puppy personality and plethora of bad habits are wearing away at the good behavior of the others.
