I think we have a surplus economy. We have extra people in case of an emergency. I have felt for a long time that we had a false economy because of these people were not taken care of the prices could not stay as high as they are. i.e. no one would buy the high priced food if they didn't have food stamps. What I find disturbing is how people get rich of these programs. Case in point public housing. We have apartment buildings that are set up for the poor, the poor pay around $130 per month to live there and they milk the tax payers $756 per month for substandard housing. (a two bedroom apartment rents for around $400 in the area). Don't kid yourself that the people who run programs like acorn don't do their share of milking also. The drop off rate for many programs is very low. We make about $36,000 per year and my coworker with two kids can not get her home weatherised by the government programs. In Oakland county they have a program where they are helping the homeless buy the homes that have been forclosed on. The amount of money that goes out for taxes, union dues and insurance and copays and deductables leaves very little to live on. It is only when you start making more money that you start to get the tax breaks. Therefore you have welfare for the rich and welfare for the poor and the people in the middle are really hurting. People wonder why we need credit cards it is to survive because there is literally nothing to live off if you make under $70,000 per year. And in our case you also have to pay off the student loans. Frankly Berry can take his $13 per paycheck and shove it to were the sun doesn't shine. (more)

In Michigan they no longer can see an eye doctor, a dentist or a foot doctor. Many will go to the ER instead of a doctor. Medicaid supplies more then medicare. Sometime I wonder why people who have never worked can have better health care then people who did work. We need something. I don't know what the answer is but when you think about it, how much health care would the trillions spent on bailing the banks out buy? (more)

When you have large groups of people who have nothing your country is in danger. There are no jobs, people are loosing their homes, they are hungry. In many ways the election of 2008 was a coup.
