Yes, Hochdeutsche oder Nedderdüütsch, it all sounds good to me. I do prefer the niedrige Deutsche. I could never really get used to the ICH rather than the ISH.
WHen my father was a kid, my grandmother and her sister used to speak in German and he begged them to teach him. They refused. Then I remembered my grandmother telling my brother and I (I was 9, he was 7), as she wagged her finger at us, "Don't ever tell anyone you are German. They'll call you a Hun and a Teuton and accuse you of starting wars." My father never listened and neither did we. Yes, we are of good STOCK. They did do bad and unforgivable things but the contributions to math and science and philosophy and music for centuries should far outweigh the 12 or so years of horror. My father was a WWII veteran (25th Infantry) but fought the Japanese. It is, ultimately, too bad and such a waste of lives on all sides.
I can't trace my family back any farther than my grandparents. It's really too bad.

Excellent for you, speaking so well, I do not. I know that Germans from munich, don't say ICH, they say ISH. I undestand about two dialects. Did not know that, but my parents are from two differant villages, and as you know, they all have their, own German dialect. Just picked it up. Then HIgh German and low German. I see they spoke HIGH German to you. My brother was born in Leibsig, (spelling wrong), and I was born in Grunhein, with an umlaut over the 'u'. I am sure, somewhere, we could be related. lol
I have some names that go back to 1600's.
