About Me

I like everything, really. In the long ago days I was a dancer extraordinaire who could've buried John Travolta so I have a place for Disco. But I was raised on Rock - from 50s-80s. I like jazz and big band, some country, folk. Mozart is outstanding and love the way Debussy blends those wood winds! Music is life!

So many: as a kid I loved the Lad A Dog and Big Red; all time though is Lord of the Rings, but there's Tragic Sense of Life which helped set my spiritual compass A Distant Mirror, The Little Prince, Fup, the Duck, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, books and stories by C.J. Cherryh and other science fiction and fantasy.

The demand of Islam is just that if you call yourself a Jew than be a Jew; call yourself a Christian, then be a Christian; call yourself a Moslem then be a Moslem. The infidel and danger to all beliefs and practices are the ones who make great claim and show but behave contrary to their religion. True adherents to any faith would have no problem having friends across all lines because they would be secure in their beliefs. (more)

Even though allowing an option like that would bring people in droves to a cable company (imagine a marketing scheme of "Roll Your Own" where you pick your own channels at reduced fees in packages of 5, 10, 15 or 20! You decide what you want and keep what you don't want out!) it makes too much sense. While we're on the subject, one of my big complaints is that cable channels were supposed to be non-commercial. You're paying extra for them so then why are they racking up all these commercial dollars? And with parental controls, why are they still chopping up movies? Not just bleeping out "offensive" words (they'll take out 'goddamn' and leave in every racial epithet known) but entire scenes. I mean, they're even chopping reruns of TV shows to cram in an extra three minutes of commercials! That isn't what I signed up for.

I meant to agree that I want to pick my own channels and having pre-selected packages shoved down our throats sucks.

Innocent flirtations can be fun, but if it makes your partner uncomfortable, you don't do it. If people continue to flirt, iit could be a control thing; one of those button items that makes the partner furious or insecure, whatever, but gives the flirter (???) that much more power. It's a very negative thing and a sign of a control and mentally/emotionally abusive person.

Other times, it could be that the person is perpetually on the prowl, always looking for another conquest; keeping their options open. Again, it's all about control, keeping several partners lined up.

In the end, if your partner flirts and you ask him/her to stop and they don't, it's certainly showing a lack of respect for your feelings.

Some go overboard because their parents went overboard and it's more a means to vent their own frustrations. Parents like that shouldn't be parents. Mine spanked for extreme offenses (playing with fire; gettin' sassy or "mannish" with an adult; being warned not to do something and doing it anyway) whenever I did something I knew if I got caught I'd get a spanking and Mom made us get her belt, too. Yeah, sometimes they got carried away, but I never felt I was unloved. Personally, I'd get rid of the belt, never rais the hand above the shoulder and never more than 10. I mean, as adults I had a great relationship with my father, as did all my friends who were spanked. The ones who didn't always had these horrible screaming matches with their parents, cursing, name calling -- WOW! But back to the question. No need to make this one a racial thing. Spanking is equal opportunity discipline. (more)

Well, it isn't such a far stretch compared with some subliminal crap floating around out there. But, yeah, lay it down on its side and those clouds become gently wafting smoke. Heck, after a few hits, as one's head begins to loll about --- Oh yeah! Here's to Michael Phelps! (more)

States have been collecting huge revenues from tobacco taxes and have become addicted. When this all started, the revenues were supposed to be dedicated to stop smoking programs. Not anymore! They get dumped into general revenue funds and are disbursed like any other tax. Tobacco companies invest more in stop smoking advertising and programs than states. Now, with more money at stake, cigarettes are becoming a worthwhile commodity for the black market. Supposedly Chinese cigarettes have been flooding the US with names like Newports and Marlboros (US brands are 'Newport' and 'Marlboro') but those cigarettes also contain things like kerosene and pesticides. Or buying them up from Native American reservations and selling them more cheaply. If it was just about stopping smoking, then they would just outlaw them. (I'm a smoker, by the way) which I wish they would just have the guts to do. (more)
