I've walked this earth since 1844 and I've realized that humanity evolves as fast as evolution. It takes a long, long time. I only wish that humanity evolved as fast as the electronic toys that people carry around. That's what makes me sad - people care more about their machines than they do about their fellow humans.

I love Artie Shaw, Cole Porter, the Gershwins,....,classical, big band, opera,....., I don't tend to like much between 1955-1975. Then I start to like popular music after 1976 - except rap and most top 40 types of music. I like Joy Division/New Order, Matthew Ryan, David Gray, Florence & the Machine, Phoenix,...., you get the beat now.

Favorite TV Shows

"Northern Exposure" was how I wish we could all live in the USA. Current Television: "Lark Rise to Candleford", "Frontline", Masterpiece Theatre's Mystery series. most of the television shows in the USA should not be watched.

Favorite Movies

"The Misfits" 1961 United Artists release. Screenplay by Arthur Miller, Directed by John Huston, starring Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Eli Wallach, Montgomery Clift, and Thelma Ritter. I tend to be a film historian of anything between 1920-1945.

Favorite Books

"We, the Living", "Trilby", "Good Night, Sweet Prince", "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", "Tess of the D'Ubervilles". Anything by John Steinbeck, Sinclair Lewis, Wendell Berry, Kurt Vonnegut, ...., most 20th Century writers.

It is depressing, at least the one I volunteered at. There's a feeling of hopelessness and despondency ("is this are there is to life?").

As for the Mall of America, I like it...but being around a lot fo people makes me want to hide.
