  I must confess that my thinking on this issue (gov't corruption) has been heavily influenced by three books I have read on the subject over the past couple of years.
  So Damn Much Money .... Robert Kaiser
  Throw Them All Out ...... Peter Schweizer
  Republic, Lost ....... Lawrence Lessig
  
  All three are excellent and focus on gov't corruption from a different perspective. Also, Lessig is extremely liberal, Schweizer is a conservative and I'm not sure what Kaiser's predominant ideology is. However, he wrote for and was an editor for The Washington Post for many years, so he is clearly not a conservative. The point (that you and I agree on, I believe) is that this is not a partisan issue, although many want to only view it through their partisan prism.
