Not everyone sees me that way XP If I'm humorous, it just comes, I know little of whether I'm actually humorous or not. My own personal view is I'm rather bad at it =P

My brothers wrote a letter to try to save the original Star Trek too. When NBC canceled it again, I suggested writing another letter, but they said it wouldn't work. I'm not sure why they thought they knew that, but in any case, you're right that Season 3 was weaker by and large. Roddenberry, although listed as executive producer, stopped producing in protest over NBC moving Star Trek to the Friday night death slot, and it shows in the reduced quality. They also got a smaller budget in Season 3, not just smaller than Season 2, but smaller than Season 1, which is why they did episodes like "Spectre of the Gun" where they could use an old Paramount western lot. The producers did a lot of cheap things, like dramatic sounding music and cameras pulling in and out (I'm thinking especially of when they returned from the opening credits in "The Enterprise Incident") to try to scream, "Hey, this is dramatic!" instead of, oh, I don't know, actually MAKING the episode dramatic.

I'm not sure about the Star Trek world. Keep in mind that the Earth was ruled by the UN, and had to suffer through an atomic World War III, not to mention Eugenics Wars. Roddenberry was an old Cold War liberal, although by the time he started Next Generation he'd become a peacenik liberal, which is why in S...

Roddenberry was an old Cold War liberal, although by the time he started Next Generation he'd become a peacenik liberal, which is why in Season 1 of TNG they had so much trouble concluding episodes, having Piccard talk their way out of trouble, whereas Kirk would have found a way to defeat the aliens first and THEN would have talked to them (for the most part). :-D

I grew up in Chicago. I've been on farms, but never done any farming. I don't regret not milking cows or mucking stalls. :-D

Thanks for adding me too, Phoenix! I recognized your profile photo as Terry Farrell playing Jadzia Dax, and I've been a big fan of Star Trek since the 1960s. I went to see the theatrical release of the digitally remastered TNG episodes Best of Both Worlds Parts 1 and 2 last night, as a matter of fact!

I lived in Iowa for 11 years, and had a girlfriend up in Cedar Rapids--the home town of Terry Ferrell. I saw a life-sized cardboard cutout of her in a store once, and talked to the owner about it. That's actually how I learned she came from Cedar Rapids. Once, apparently, she needed some of those for an appearance, and Parmount fumbled, so she came into his store and bought all the ones he had at the time! :-) Small world, huh? :-)

Wow...you are a real country girl.... and anyone who says horses are dumb are dumb about horses. Horses never forget anything.

Can racing is the same as barrel racing, but the rider is required to knock a can off the barrel with a short stick (or in some events, with his hand) while making the turn. About the only horse out there that can make that cut efficiently around the barrel is a quarter horse.

Taffy took a lot of training to break her of bad habits. She had one habit (besides biting, stepping slowly with all her weight on your nearest foot, throwing her head, and taking off before you could get into the saddle) that was most difficult to break. She loved water. Whenever we had to cross a stream, she would proceed to the middle and then roll. I can tell you personally for a fact that stream water can be very cold under your armpits, especially in early spring when there is still snow on the ground. Whenever we were near a pond or a lake she would try to break away and go for a swim.

When I taught in Pennsylvania, all of my students had horses; and they would sometimes ride them to school. The school (Tunkhannock Area School), besides having a gun check room, had hitching rails, troughs, a corral and a wind shelter. Sometimes after school, some of the students and I ...

When I taught in Pennsylvania, all of my students had horses; and they would sometimes ride them to school. The school (Tunkhannock Area School), besides having a gun check room, had hitching rails, troughs, a corral and a wind shelter. Sometimes after school, some of the students and I would ride to a nearby lake, which had a long dock, and ride our horses off the end of the dock. Our horses would then swim back with us and want to do it again.

The summers were spent at my uncle's pasture and barn in Oxford, New York where I made a daily trip to Cortland State University to continue my education. There was a single wire electric fence about three and a half feet high surrounding the pasture. One early morning, I got a call from the State Police to come and get your "damn horse....we can't catch her. She's terrorizing motorists and holding up traffic on the highway. Get your ass down here right now!"

It seems that Taffy figured out that she could roll under the fence. Upon doing so, she headed for the highway during morning rush hour, and when a car came by she would run along side it on the shoulder of the highway. When the reaction of the driver was to slow down, that was a big mistake. She then went in front of the car and stopped, stopping the motorist. A car coming in the other direction would stop as well, if just to see what was going on.... another big mistake. If either driver tried to move, Taffy would switch lanes. I do not know how far the traffic was backed up when I got there, but it was farther than i could see. The police officer was not too happy... and what were all those people going to tell their managers why they were late for work. (I'm late because of a horse???) Of course, most of their bosses were probably held up as well.

Luckily, I was not fined, but let off with a stern warning from a state trooper who was trying to keep from laughing while he gave me the lecture.

You have brought back many memories.

Congratulations on the additions to your "family."

If you really wish to bore yourself, read the following: ("If brevity is the soul of wit," this is not going to be brief...)

I was born and raised in upstate New York, taught high school English in Pennsylvania for five years (teacher of the year award), then worked in New York City as a manager for Alexanders (now defunct) in charge of their 3 million dollar "trim-a-tree" program. That's probably why they're defunct. Then I moved back to New York (worked my ass off) and became CEO of a small cap corporation for about 30 years.... made tons of $... but very unhappy. Then divorced and moved to Henderson, NV (Las Vegas) for about 2 years where I worked for The Animal Foundation as director of animal licensing for the the city of Las Vegas until I was offered a job at Las Vegas College teaching computer applications, English, and oral communications (debate). Teaching is my true love for a profession.

I met a wonderful woman in Las Vegas and we moved to San Antonio where her kids were and one of my kids is now.... best move I ever made. Texas is great. ... Taught at Career Point College and then at Hallmark College where I achieved the position of chair of general education department overseeing the professors and instructors ...

Taught at Career Point College and then at Hallmark College where I achieved the position of chair of general education department overseeing the professors and instructors for sociology, mathematics, psychology, and English.... now retired and teaching underprivileged kids the tricks to increasing their scores on the English section of the SAT's ... no charge. I used to work for ETS (Educational Testing Services.. they write the SAT's) grading the SAT essays of high school students.

My horse (and companion) was a quarter horse palomino, who back then was the champion can racer in Pennsylvania. When I bought her, I had to untrain her so that she could be ridden as a pleasure horse and not take off at a full gallop as soon as anyone put his foot in the stirrup. The first day I had her she threw me into an electric fence.... I really got a charge out of that one. Her registered name was "Taffy:" but the locals referred to her as "Nasty Bitch." I had to give her up when my ex-wife gave me the option of choosing between the horse and her. I made the wrong choice. :=)

Anyone can write anything on the NET. If you wish to verify some of what I have writ, go to the following site... but please do not reveal my real name to anyone. My screen name "drdos" was given to me by a class that discovered that I was listed in PC World's magazine as having the dubious distinction of being one of the top 100 experts of DOS (Microsoft's Disc Operating System).
