+6 raves Alright... so to everybody who thinks that Global Warming is a natural cycle of the earth, and th... Alright... so to everybody who thinks that Global Warming is a natural cycle of the earth, and that we therefore shouldn't do anything against it consider 2 scenarios:
1) We assume Global Warming is caused by humans, and therefore take the necessary steps to reduce the emissions that scientists say are causing it.
2) We do nothing and hope its a natural cycle of the earth.
What are the worst case scenarios in both instances?
In 1, lets say that we do take steps to reduce our CO2 emissions (since thats what many scientists think is contributing to global warming), and global warming turns out to just be a natural cycle of the earth. Sure, we might have needlessly taken time and spent money to come up with alternative fuels... but we'd rid ourselves of our dependence on foreign oil (this would be HUGE for our country). Plus, in the long run, ITS ONLY MONEY.
Worst case scenario in 2? We are causing Global Warming, we do nothing to stop it, and hundreds of millions if not billions of people, animals, and plants die because we thought it was a natural cycle of the earth.
AT LEAST if we're wrong about 1, something good will come out of it. If we are wrong about 2, the world will be DEVASTATED. There are countless numbers of scientists who believe that we are causing Global Warming. We absolutely cannot afford to not take the steps necessary to reduce our emissions. Nobody knows for 100% certainty what is causing our climate change, so we must act to prevent the possible devastation of the world. (more)
