About Me

WELL... My dad is Irish, my mother is Australian (German by decent) I was born in America (California), i have purple (dyed) hair, I live in Campbelltown (Australia), I am Russian Orthodox, and lived in brazil for 4 years of my life, I hardly ever watch tv, still like swing sets, I love books and have been home schooled most my life.... this makes me somewhat strange in the eyes of most people.

My favorite outdoor activity would have to be the swing set. (yes I am 16). I also like driving.... (when i don't get the execrator and the Brake mixed up)

I enjoy reading, my friends company, my mum's cooking, I LOVE my 42 inch mac (well technically its my parents, but i love it more than they do), I also like brackets (incase you hadn't noticed) :P

    Many wonder why Twilight really is that big of a deal, why it really is such a horrible blow to our culture. The truth is, it isn't a blow to our culture as much as a horrible signal of where it is going. Feminists and other champions of women being treated as equals point to the wrong target. Clearly, the real enemy isn't the male gender, but the female gender itself. Edward treats Bella like a child, I don't see it as entirely out of character for him to go as far as 'punishing' her, or otherwise abusing her natural human rights. Re-read the books with this in mind and you will realize exactly what I am talking about. Edward cares about Bella far too much, there is nothing else in him, nothing else about him. He is entirely and endlessly devoted to her, yet this devotion has somewhat of a sick and unhealthy edge. He plays the role of both Bella's lover, and her father. Despite being alive for over a hundred years, he is obsessed with this human girl, a girl who he has likely met many of times before given that she has no real distinctive personality. He is practically a stalker. A stalker who happens to be attractive. Which makes it okay. You may be thinking "Well, as long as we don't think about it, it's okay"...no, it's not okay. When we don't think about it, it merely means that our conscious mind doesn't recognize it. Our subconscious mind, the thing that actually controls our wants, sees and recognizes everything. The fangirls, all of them, they really want this. This is what they want. A man who stalks them, who is on a pedestal above them, and who patronizes them and tells them that they have no idea how to take care of themselves. Psychological evidence shows that the female fantasy of a man who would (hypothetically) take care of them, protect them, and love them is perfectly healthy. However, on this level, it is nothing of the sort. The best example is found in the fourth book, when Bella and Edward have sex. Bella wants to do it again. However, Edward doesn't want to, worried that he may hurt her.

    To many of the fans of the book, this is cute.

    To people who know anything about psychology, this is deeply disturbing and implies a bucket full of emotional issues. Not only was the sex rough, but afterwards he demanded that they not do it again, because he may lose control. What this WOULD imply (if Edward were a remotely realistic character) is that Edward is secretly an extremely aggressive and outright abusive person, and that his overprotective nature is really merely because he is going as far as he can in the opposite direction to control it. In a realistic situation, with a realistic person, one of the most probable eventual outcomes of this would be Bella's murder by the hands of Edward himself.

    The worst, by far, is when young women begin to take it seriously and demand a man actually like Edward in their real life. Don't lie to me. Don't tell me that it doesn't happen and that no one thinks that way. You know the truth as well as I do. This is a book being sold to impressionable young girls. They're going to think whatever they're "supposed" to think.

    As a writer:

    Twilight was written at approximately a sixth grade level...after it was edited at first. It's poor writing style has actually allowed it to attract people who are not capable of reading normal books due to the mental effort it requires. This means, effectively, that being a bad book has been one of Twilight's greatest advantages so far.

    But there are loads of things you can pick at in Twilight's plot. From bad ideas, (they sparkle, SERIOSULY, and Native American werewolves, guys) to incessant plot holes, (I can't control myself...oh, wait, nevermind, I can. Now I can't again.) to deeply troubling moral messages, (see above) the book is an absolute mess. It's true that it is in a genre of books where you shouldn't THINK about it, but if you even remotely turn your brain on and the plot completely stops making sense, than you know that something is wrong.
